[TASTING + BURPPLE DISCOUNT] With an extensive menu consisting of a whopping 36 drinks, Tea Dojo’s the new kid on the block when it comes to BBT and they were so kind to invite us over to try their drinks! 😍😍
-
We had their:
🍇 Grape Boba Goodness ($6.30)
🍓 Strawberry Boba Goodness ($6.80)
🍼 Boba Strawberry Yogurt ($7.80)
🍵 Mountain Snow Top ($6.50)
🧋 Epic Milk Tea ($5.50)
☕️ Coconut Coffee ($5.30)
[Note prices shown are for L-size/700ml]

My drink was the Mountain Snow Top (⭐️ 7/10), which interestingly came with salted egg biscuit topping on their snow top — I feel like the salted egg may be an acquired taste but overall this was a decent drink. This was introduced as their strongest tea on the menu and had a distinct tea taste, although it was lighter than expected. Nonetheless, I liked the use of fresh milk instead of what’s on the market, which can result in cloying aftertastes especially for 700ml-sized BBTs. Definitely a good choice! 😋😋

Special shoutout to the Grape Boba Goodness (⭐️ 8/10) with whole grapes and grape boba in the drink — a strong contender against HeyTea’s drinks (but for a lower price). I also liked the refreshing Boba Strawberry Yogurt (⭐️ 8/10), on the pricier side but definitely worth its price tag, with the mild sourness of the 0% natural yogurt contrasting against the sweetness of fresh strawberries!

gen made me a 🥤𝙎𝙤𝙮 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙠 𝙏𝙚𝙖 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙎𝙤𝙮 𝙁𝙤𝙖𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙅𝙖𝙙𝙚 [$5.9], which i think is pretty much their most iconic option on the menu. relatively more fragrant and thicker than your average cup of soya milk, it even comes with a smooth layer of beancurd at the bottom and a creamy, airy dollop of soya milk foam, created from freshly frothed soy milk. to top it off in a way i’ve never seen before is a skewer with three chewy mochi-ish balls and a sprinkle of earthy soy bean powder. as an avid drinker of boxed soy milk, i must say that this was a real treat 😍 THANKS GENNY!!!!!!

My heart goes bedok-bedok whenever I think of Hay, Gelato 🤤 My friend is their biggest fan so I knew I just had to go down, and was completely charmed! I loved the Balsamic Strawberry, which came with tangy freeze-dried strawberry bits on top, with the slight sourness complementing the sweetness of the strawberry. Although I was hesitant to order it, the balsamic taste is pretty faint and generally did not affect the flavour profile - they can definitely afford for it to be stronger!
-
The Vanilla Himalayan Salt was light and refreshing with a subtly salty aftertaste, which I felt was a unique addition to the classic vanilla option. In fact, the malty cereal bits on top also offered another layer to every bite, as well as a great crunch that contrasted the smooth, creamy gelato.

Of course, there's no way I can omit the gorgeously golden-brown waffles! Light and crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside, they're hands-down the best waffles I've ever had — they've since become the waffle standard whenever I try new places.

Hay, Gelato opens until 2am daily so you can always grab some post-supper sweet treats with your friends. East side best side, truly ✌️

Everytime I come to Culture Spoon, I HAVE to get the I Love You Berry Much ($5.50). Made with fresh juice concentrate (not syrup!!) on a fragrant jasmine tea base, it's the perfect refresher for Singapore's sweltering weather. For the quality, it's pretty affordable since fresh fruits are also used, which definitely cost more than pre-made syrups. I'd recommend asking for less sugar if you drink 0% sugar bbt, but it's perfect for me (I drink 30-50% sugar bbt)!

The Two-Face ($8.50), a double layered matcha and Basque burnt cheesecake, was an enjoyable melt-in-your-mouth option too, and I appreciated the unique take on the cake that took the Internet by storm a while back. Definitely a great option to curb those pandemic cravings!!

My favourite Keong Saik Bakery delight is their Seashore 2.0 (⭐️ 10/10), a gorgeous baby blue sea salt butterfly pea mousse atop a decadent earl grey cheesecake and a crispy earl grey shortbread base. It's honestly a work of genius with memorable juxtapositions of textures, colours, and flavours, and I loved how the lighter butterfly pea mousse transitions into a more prominent earl grey flavour. Every bite is just unforgettable — it's always a 'yes' from me.

We shared the Truffle Cheezeburger Pizza (⭐️ 7/10), which had my favourite crispy thin crust (although it was a little soggy towards the middle). I was appreciated how flavourful it was and quite enjoyed the homemade cashew cheese and nacho "cheese" sauces. Nonetheless, I definitely think they could have been more generous with the various ingredients, which we felt were on the scarcer side.

Made with absolutely no food dye, the eye-catching dome made of purple sweet potato can attest to how much natural goodness you're getting, which is more than what many cafes can say for the heartstopping amounts of artificial colourings & flavourings in many conventional options. With taro cream, coconut sago and almond sponge inside, the pastry has a pretty well-rounded earthy flavour that makes me reminiscent of Burbur Chacha, a traditional dessert prepared with similar ingredients. I love how well the grainy texture of taro complements the lightness of the almond sponge, creating a dessert that is light but does not skimp on flavour. Since the flavours are as natural as it can get, it can be a culture shock for people who've never had taro, but the good news is that there's more of it for all taro lovers out there! 💜💜💜

Dropped by Omoté before an interview and adored their lovely ambience and the amazing, affordable chirashi! Unfortunately, the Tokyo Gyu Don ($13.80) paled in comparison to the outstanding chirashi. Although the beef was tender and flavourful, it was on the saltier side, and the rice was also soaked in soya sauce which made the whole thing a salt fest. The egg, however, was done perfectly with a gorgeous flowy yolk. Nonetheless, coming to Omoté should mean instinctively sticking to their chirashi dons, which is rightfully what they are known for.

📍Little Damage
🚆 Nearest MRT: Bugis
🍴Earl Grey, Unicorn Tears ($7 + $1 for Charcoal Cone)
⭐️ 6.5/10
-
Passed by Little Damage after dinner and decided to give it a try with #burpplebeyond! The whole store, decorated in gorgeous black and white tiles, only had three seats so I would suggest going at an off-peak time if you'd like to give them a go. I was actually pretty excited for their ice cream, since I had seen stunning photos of the ice cream on Instagram and had hoped that it would taste as good as it looked. Unfortunately, the blue Unicorn Tears, which the staff told us was Cookies & Cream, had no discernible flavour except for being sweet. Although very Instagrammable, the blue food colouring stained my mouth for a long time (my tongue was still blue the next morning despite intense brushing that night) so do take note if you have a photoshoot afterwards. Nonetheless, the portion is pretty massive, probably enough to share between 2-3 people as it gets pretty jelak (cloying) if you have it by yourself. I preferred my friend's Earl Grey, which also didn't have as strong a tea flavour as I would have liked, but was less overwhelmingly sweet than the Unicorn Tears.
-
I love the concept behind Little Damage, but it falls short flavour-wise. Nonetheless, with the Burpple deal, it's pretty value for money as two ice creams can be shared between 4-6 people!

📍Hong Kee Beef Noodles (Amoy Street Food Centre)
🚆 Nearest MRT: Tanjong Pagar
🍴Beef Noodles ($6)
⭐️ 8.5/10
-
Featured in the Michelin Bib Gourmand, I had high hopes for these beef noodles and am delighted to write that I loved them! With thin juicy beef slices and four beef balls in a clear flavourful broth, I briefly considered ordering another bowl for myself. I appreciated how the broth had a noticeable 'beefy' taste with a subtle sweetness, which is probably evidence of cooking the broth over a long period of time rather than using pre-made powdered seasoning. The chilli served with the dish has a pretty good kick and brings out the flavour of the beef beautifully. My sole (mostly negligible) gripe is that the portion of noodles was pretty tiny despite ordering the largest size, and I still felt hungry after the meal. At such an affordable price, I don't know how anyone could miss this!
