My heart goes bedok-bedok whenever I think of Hay, Gelato ๐คค My friend is their biggest fan so I knew I just had to go down, and was completely charmed! I loved the Balsamic Strawberry, which came with tangy freeze-dried strawberry bits on top, with the slight sourness complementing the sweetness of the strawberry. Although I was hesitant to order it, the balsamic taste is pretty faint and generally did not affect the flavour profile - they can definitely afford for it to be stronger!
-
The Vanilla Himalayan Salt was light and refreshing with a subtly salty aftertaste, which I felt was a unique addition to the classic vanilla option. In fact, the malty cereal bits on top also offered another layer to every bite, as well as a great crunch that contrasted the smooth, creamy gelato.
-
Of course, there's no way I can omit the gorgeously golden-brown waffles! Light and crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside, they're hands-down the best waffles I've ever had โ they've since become the waffle standard whenever I try new places.

Hay, Gelato opens until 2am daily so you can always grab some post-supper sweet treats with your friends. East side best side, truly โ๏ธ

๐ดEarl Grey, Unicorn Tears ($7 + $1 for Charcoal Cone)
โญ๏ธ 6.5/10

Passed by Little Damage after dinner and decided to give it a try with #burpplebeyond! The whole store, decorated in gorgeous black and white tiles, only had three seats so I would suggest going at an off-peak time if you'd like to give them a go. I was actually pretty excited for their ice cream, since I had seen stunning photos of the ice cream on Instagram and had hoped that it would taste as good as it looked. Unfortunately, the blue Unicorn Tears, which the staff told us was Cookies & Cream, had no discernible flavour except for being sweet. Although very Instagrammable, the blue food colouring stained my mouth for a long time (my tongue was still blue the next morning despite intense brushing that night) so do take note if you have a photoshoot afterwards. Nonetheless, the portion is pretty massive, probably enough to share between 2-3 people as it gets pretty jelak (cloying) if you have it by yourself. I preferred my friend's Earl Grey, which also didn't have as strong a tea flavour as I would have liked, but was less overwhelmingly sweet than the Unicorn Tears.
-
I love the concept behind Little Damage, but it falls short flavour-wise. Nonetheless, with the Burpple deal, it's pretty value for money as two ice creams can be shared between 4-6 people!

Apiary (noun): a place where bees are kept โ so you can be sure I had an extremely sweet time there! Especially after dinner, it's a great place to chill with some lovely dessert, a relaxed atmosphere and friendly, responsible staff.
-
I really loved their charcoal waffle, which was chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside and not overly dense. Apart from a lightly smoky, earthy flavour, the charcoal waffle is mostly #forthegram for a slight 50 cents top-up from their regular waffles. I loved their Caramelised Strawberry, which was creamy and smooth with a generous serving of real strawberry bits. The intensity of the strawberry flavour was just spot-on, without being too subtle nor overwhelmingly sweet.
-
We also decided to go for their Apiary since it's named after the cafe (or the other way around??) โ it's honey-infused ice cream with cacao nibs. I felt this was a pretty unique option and enjoyed how the cacao nibs gave a new element of texture to each bite, and appreciated the strong honey taste.

They say distance makes your heart grow fonder, and I can't think of an occasion that this line was truer than the four months I spent without Baristart's cream puff ๐ฅฒ With a gorgeously crispy choux shell piped full of fresh cream made from Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk, I could honestly eat this forever. The cream is so delicious that I can eat it on its own! It's a 10/10 from me โ if you know me personally, you'll know that I will aggressively beg you to go to Baristart with me if we're in the vicinity of it.

i had expected the ๐๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐ฎ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ ๐ [$17.7] to come as a stack of pancakes, but true to its name, it came as a single large pancake, with a cake-y texture that had a buttery aroma and crisp edges. the strawberry compote was just the right amount of sweet too! ๐

The newly-opened Creฬme & Cone, which has been making waves on Instagram, needs no introduction. Situated at Food Folks @ Lau Pa Sat, the pastel aesthetic of the gelateria is sure to catch anyoneโs eye. I had the Deep Dark Chocolate with a Bandung Cone, while my friend had the Blueberry Lavender with an Original Cone. I was really fascinated by the handrolled Bandung waffle cone, with its fragrant scent and adorable pink colour (which was the deciding factor in convincing me to get it)! The bandung taste was pretty legitimate, and the waffle cone was also crispy and extremely enjoyable.
-
Although I enjoyed the bittersweet tones of the Deep Dark Chocolate, which was recommended to us by the staff, it melted extremely fast and created a gigantic sticky mess on my hands, which made the experience more unpleasant than it should have been. I was also pretty confused, as my friendโs Blueberry Lavender melted at an appropriate pace and did not leak out of the cone. Nonetheless, it has to be acknowledged that the scoop size was much more generous than most others that I have tried and will definitely be a bang for your buck!

๐ด Double scoops, premium flavours, with cone ($7.50 with 15% students' discount): Avocado & Gula Melaka and Mixed Berries Sorbet
-
I had the Avocado & Gula Melaka and Mixed Berries a few days ago, and was honestly super impressed! I was a bit hesitant to try Avocado & Gula Melaka as I hadn't seen anyone else do it, but Denzy really hit the spot with this one! Incredibly creamy with the characteristic nuttiness of avocadoes, it reminded me of the famous avocado milkshake at Adam Road Food Centre (if you know you know!). If you love avocadoes or want a change from the standard flavours, this is the one for you!
-
The Mixed Berries sorbet, besides being vegan, was berry delicious!! Usually, I'd expect vegan sorbets to be, at best, slightly icy, yet Denzy's rendition was smooth and natural without a single trace of artificial flavourings. My friend described it as "running through the strawberry fields in spring" which is exactly what it is. It was also an extremely refreshing respite from Singapore's unrelenting heat (although we've had quite a number of rainy spells lately) and will be a treat no matter the weather!

just how cute is this? ๐ daryl and i stumbled upon this place on our way to apiary and we changed our plans at the last minute because we were so enticed by roji monster's entire concept. basically, you choose your ice cream flavour, select your sides by chopping on a card (with an old school ink pad) and just hand it to the cashier! i loved the range of toppings they provided, and when we had a hard time choosing, the staff were really helpful with giving us recommendations. we started ordering right before the place was about to close so they were out of a number of their best toppings though โน๏ธ
ok, considering the price point, we should have expected the serving size to be pretty huge and it was! the ice cream was served in such a unique mannerโfold upon fold of sorbet-like layers topped off with two googly eyes!! the toppings are served in separate dishes which i thought were so cute. the ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ข [$12.9] sustained a nice balance of sweet and bitter and the ๐๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ข [$12.9] was slightly less flavourful with just a muted milky taste. the sides were also damn good and you can tell that they were prepared with just as much care as the ice cream was, the supposed star of the show.
by the way, their service is just brilliant. daryl and i had initially walked away because they told us we had to wait around 10 minutes for a seat, but once a seat was available, they literally ran across around 15+ stalls just to catch up with us down the path to let us know! i thought that was extremely genuine so we decided to turn back to go there instead of continuing our search for apiary haha. also, they were super helpful with helping us order, and remained upbeat and cheerful even though it was so late into the night. thank you!!!
๐OVERALL: cute concept without compromising the quality of their food. excellent service too! will definitely be bringing more friends here

We had the ๐๐ข๐ค๐ง๐๐จ ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฉ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ฉ ๐พ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ก ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ค [$15], which seems to be the most iconic waffle because it was at the top of the menu accompanied with a big ass photo lol. I think this one was my favourite! The marshmallows were astonishingly crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside, achieving the right balance of a perfectly roasted marshmallow (which I always try to create at BBQ parties but fail because Iโm wayyy too impatient to stand around a small flame with 10 other people rolling their skewers anxiously as well). Ok I digress. We also chose the sea salt caramel gelato to go with the waffles, and it was really good! It was creamy and didnโt melt easily, and the saltiness from the sea salt was accentuated by the pleasantly muted sweetness of caramel. ๐

we were recommended ๐พ๐๐๐ง๐ก๐ค๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ [$9], their most iconic option, apparently. it was reallyyyy interesting, iโve never had anything quite like it. the mascarpone mousse was silky and had a good balance of sweet and savoury. the chunks of basil sponge was interesting tooโhidden within the mousse, it added another dimension to both the taste and texture of the pastry! the strawberry compote filling was really sweet in comparison to the rest of the pastry haha
the ๐๐๐จ๐จ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ง๐ช๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐๐ช๐ [$7.5] was cited as a โsafe choiceโ by one of the workers there so we went for it. i quite liked it, especially for the torched meringue (which felt like marshmallows in my mouth). the passionfruit curd was thick and smooth, while the tart was pretty hard and dense.
