Once a popular stall in the food court at the basement of Concorde Hotel (now under renovation), Kim Dae Mun is now located on the second floor in the corner of the hotel's shopping arcade, holding it's own, and keeping up with its success. I came here during lunch hour. It wasn't as crowded as I was expecting it to be, meaning I didn't have to wait for empty seats, but considerably packed. My partner and I shared a bibimbap and hot plate chicken between ourselves. Everything was delicious. I can even gloss over the fact that the chicken (sliced into thin strips) was made of 50% fat. It gave me a very satisfactory meal at lunch and made me a happier person returning to the office, heheh.
There's something about this pie that sets it apart from the many others I've had. The tart apple slices, almost savoury flaky-on-the-outside crust and done-without-sick-sweetness makes it my dessert of choice here (always) and perhaps, almost certainly, this is my favouritest apple pie~
At Etna's, we ate big, grew bigger. Here's one of the many food items we ordered at our table. Etna's located under a walk-up apartment - not an old walk-up apartment which would possibly have created a hipster vibe about that place, but one with a modest, unpretentious and simple facade. The interior of the restaurant itself pretty much suits the above description too, and so does the food. Every ingredient used came through in each dish without being overpowered by artificial seasoning. Read: fresh tomato pizza base, the creaminess of burrata and flavourful saltiness of Parma ham 😍 Therefore, what I really liked about this place was being able to taste everything I saw in my food, the unpretentious setting and impeccable service.
[CANDIED BACON. How good does that sound?] A well-seasoned beef patty and omgahhh-candied bacon strips makes this burger worth returning for 😍
Flor Patisserie's Napoleon is divine. I would love to describe every part of it in detail but I choose not to, at least not for now. Give it a try if you're thinking of ordering something over the counter from Flor, because this will leave you making mental notes about everything that is good in this exquisite confection - and everything about it is good.
Decided on sandwich for lunch today. It was simple and good and I think I really like brioche.
Where in town can you find super delish yong tau foo sold at 7 pieces AND staple of choice (rice/noodle/beehoon) at ONLY 3 bucks?? I've been here for lunch everyday for the past week. Come before the lunch crowd, or come after (sigh, but I'm always here during 😭) Don't say you haven't been warned.
We are here often enough as faithful patrons of this dish, along with dried shrimps with cabbage, fresh cockles, steamed pork with salted fish, prawn paste chicken, and the very perfect chai poh omelette. 😍
Okayyyy, so above everything I've said about the food at Lola's.... The food here really isn't bad, and the same goes for this swimmer crab spaghetti (canned crab? Hahaha) Almost everything we ordered was very easy to like because it was tasty and eating here just felt... Easy. Haha, I don't want to decide just yet if I like this place or not because at Lola's, prices are affordable, food doesn't taste bad even if they feel premade. I think I've said it all. I would like to have brunch here one day, because I'm all up for good, delicious brunch. I just really hope that this niggling feeling about how the food is prepared will go away... Or be forgotten. But if there's one thing I learnt from school, it is, "what you see you cannot unsee" and I guess set in this context it means I won't be able to forget how I felt about the food here that easily, as much as I want to like it very much ::(
