I must say I love this perhaps a pinch more than the other famous geylang place. Somehow I felt that the gravy was more fragrant and flavourful, with enough of a kick from the dried chili (though it got a bit too spicy for me). I like the thick and goopey congee style porridge as well, which was not the same as the smooth congee from elsewhere. This porridge had more texture? It's hard to explain. Have to try it to know it ππ. And not to mention the best part, the leg meat was smooth, chunky, tender and just delicious.

Lunch was Kake Udon ($5.80) with egg tempura ($2.50), chicken tempura ($2.80) and broccoli tempura ($1.50). I really enjoy the udon here; it's springy and chewy with a mildly sweet taste to it. However, the tempura were so-so, the vegetable ones tend to be soaked in oil, so I would go more for the chicken or shrimp. Condiments for the udon, like seaweed, radish, spring onions etc were free flow. Quite good value to lunch here!
We weren't sure which stall to try from (there were 2 'famous' stalls), and after checking instagram, this seemed to be the more popular one. The chai por amount was just right for me, not too overwhelming, and I liked how the carrot cake was in larger slabs instead of being broken up. If it was a bit more charred and crisp on the outside, it would be perfect! Time to try from Seng Kee next time! Heard it's more charred, but saltier.
Another great pasta from La Nonna. They were so generous with the tender chicken slices, sun-dried tomatoes and garlic (loads and loads) that every mouth was loaded with its ingredients and flavour. I liked how the garlic was in big chunks instead of being chopped finely, as it gave more texture to the dish. Thumbs up! π
This was the Lavender soft serve ice cream from the Jasons supermarket tent. I loved the pastel purple colour and subtle sweetness of the lavender flavour. They should sell lavender ice cream in a tub!
Nicest bagel I had in a while. The smoked salmon was pretty standard, but I was blown away by its plain bagel. Really soft inside, but the best part was the crunchy outer. Every mouth I took had an audible crunch. Crown bakery is well known for their extremely crisp buttery croissants as well, which I have yet to try, but hope to someday.
It's not everyday that I run 21km and pass by my favourite donut place. Alcapone and Crunchy Crunchy. Definitely like the almond Alcapone better π but the Crunchy Crunchy had rice krispies which I totally loved as a cereal or inside chocolate bars, when I was younger.
But actually not too sure if this can be compared to other ζ΅ζ²ε because this had both yam paste and salted egg yolk in it. I love yam, I love salted egg, so both together tasted like a winning combination. The flowy golden lava was smooth, and the sweetness of the filling coming from the yam instead of custard. The bun was also generously filled. Only complaint was that the restaurant was way too cold, making me gobble up everything quickly before all the dishes turned cold. Where else can I get this yam and salted egg yolk buns?? Missing this already.
The squid ink rice actually had this wok hei taste to it, and the onsen egg mixed into it made it even more rich and flavourful. It could taste slightly too cloy but yet addictive. I actually finished it on my own while I see other tables sharing it among 2 to 4 persons even. The fried chicken was very meaty with thin batter which is always better than having more batter than meat. Overall, really love this dish!
Post race-pacing meal, and more importantly, our monthsary brunch. Happy monthsary darling and thank you for the support and everything else (you know what they are π).
Ooh yea. Meanwhile, here's a #throwback pic of ice cream from Udders. We're lucky that there's such a nice ice cream place near our house. Left: Wineberries. Right: Chendol. The Wineberries flavour was an Oktoberfest special if I remember correctly. Wine taste was strong, just how I like my alcoholic ice cream ππ¦.
I can only say, everything on the platter was π. Only the chicken sambal was really spicy and I couldn't take it. Beef rendang was tender and excellent. This platter was definitely big enough for 2 or 3 people to share (fingers for scale) π.
