I've had my fair share of shoyu broths and never found them to be particularly good; but this, I take my hat off to. The clear soup's immensely earthy, fragrant from the abundance of clams and seafood used in creating the dashi base, and no less rich than a tonkotsu base β quite like a good consommΓ©.
Must say I fell head over heels in love with the homely shio soup too! It tasted like something Mama would've made if she were a badass Michelin chef: hearty and comforting. Die-hard Tonkostsu fans, don't knock them till you've tried them.

When you're in the mood for an indulgent lunch (and don't we all need those once in a while!), the newly-opened Black Cow at South Beach should be at the top of your list.
This "Foie Gras Bifuteki" is one of their premium lunch specials and I feel it is truly worth the $45++ price tag as they only use premium quality ingredients imported from Japan.
So what you get in the bowl is Hokkaido rice, over which lies a slab of Japanese Wagyu Beef Steak that's grilled to perfection and sliced for ease of eating. Alongside are seared cubes of the juiciest glazed foie gras. Together with the onsen egg, they form a dish that'll have you rolling your eyes in ecstasy.
I am sure comparisons to a similar (and slightly more expensive) lunch set at Fat Cow is inevitable. And having had the one there, I will say Black Cow's is a little more generous in terms of portion size - which is a big plus in itself.
Just so you know, the lunch set includes a fresh salad, a bowl of miso soup, mixed pickles and a big scoop of ice-cream (you get to choose between yuzu and matcha).
Thank you @burpple for inviting me along and @blackcowsg @samcchua for hosting us today.
Food is good! Nice quiet place to just sit and chill and even have desserts all under one roof :) love it!
Overrated and not worth the trip ); many other better stalls around
Served right out of the fryer, these smelt so good that we couldn't resist grabbing them right away though they were burning our fingers. I've not had that many Korean fried chickens to compare, but this was yum yum yum! They were seasoned well, fried to crisp yet still remaining juicy and tender inside. The fried skin was so addictive that my mum kept sneakily grabbing them off pieces in the basket even though she was full. You can also get the half (4 pieces) at $20 or top up $10 for the whole (8 pieces). Other flavors include Sweet & Spicy ($25/$35), Garlic Soy Sauce ($25/$35), Sliced Green Onion with Mustard Sauce ($25/$40).
Located at the corner of Bugis Junction, this non-air conditioned shop is a great alternative to Toast Box for a light bite. The brainchild of Chef Benny and sister outlet to Eighteen Chefs, Seng Kee The Black Seed serves local breakfast fare all day. Swing by in the morning or after lunch to grab a Kopi (from $2.60) or for an extra boost, try the Kopi Guyu (from $3) β black coffee with a shot of butter. Feeling hungry? Wolf down a plate of Chee Cheong Fun with Sambal Belacan ($3.20) or have a Kaya Butter Set ($6) β expect generously slathered, velvety smooth kaya and a slice of butter between two lightly toasted pieces of crusty Ciabatta or Focaccia bread. It is served with two perfectly wobbly 63Β°C sous vide eggs.
Avg price: $5 per person

Naturally the noodles taste exactly like Crystal Jade but at hawker price!
It may not be the best best around, but it's happiness for $4.
3 pieces ChickenJoy ($9.50)
Served with a side and drink.
Available at @Square2SG
Selected original flavour. There's also spicy flavour. The meat was chunky and went quite well with the brown sauce.
For side, there's choice of plain rice, mashed potato, French fries and buttered corn.
Saw an interesting item on the menu : minced chicken rice.
No Fiesta Noodles at this outlet π©.

Creamless carbonara and tongue-tingling tom yum pasta. $10 each during lunch hours.
Pigsfly @ Goldhill Plaza offers many different cuisines. There are American burgers, Italian pastas and pizzas, Thai, Indian, and Japanese food. They also have wallet-friendly lunch sets and you can start drinking at noon if you want.
Being Japanese foodies, our eyes and hands were all over the Japanese food menu. The Japanese menu does not offer lunch sets but the variety is extensive enough. The price is pretty reasonable plus there is no GST and service charge.
Sirloin Steak with Salmon Salad & Rice ($14.90) was the most value-for-money for its quality and quantity. Savory and sweet steak that was surprisingly tender. The salmon chunks were fresh and succulent too! π
Aburi Salmon Maki Roll with Mentaiko Sauce (8pcs/$9.90) was not as satisfying as those at Fukuichi, Koh Grill and The Sushi Bar, but it exceeded our expectations for this ulu restaurant. π
Salmon Teriyaki Don ($7.90) was average but considering the price is comparable to the ones at food courts, it definitely tasted better and worth the money. On another hand, Ebi Tempura Don ($8.90) was so disappointingly bleh. Plain and bland π.
We'd definitely be back to try other food. And of course, for more of the affordable and tenderlicious steak! π
