I should have known when I saw the staff microwaving my broth. The meal was terrible & really just one of the worst meals I've ever had. From the microwaved soup to the poor presentation and broken egg, it was such a major disappointment for me. I've read good reviews about Joshoken's Tsukemen but this really didn't do it for me. The broth was flat and the towering beansprouts were so unappetizing. The broth was weird and had a peanut butter taste to it. Chashu was pathetic. Worst part was that I got a horrible stomach ache later that night after eating this. Will never return to Joshoken ever again. For such a price ($15.50+) it's really not worth it either. Really the most disappointing bowl of ramen I've ever had. Hopefully the management would stop microwaving their soup...

I've been a fan of Menya Musashi's Tsukemen since 2014 & it's honestly one of the best tsukemen in Singapore. At Menya, the only thing I order is their Black Garlic Soup Aburi Chashu Tsukemen, 2pc Chashu ($10.90++) 4 pc Chashu ($14.90++). The black garlic soup is served next to a bed of thick and Q noodles which you can upsize for FREE to 5x the regular portion of 120 grams! The Chashu is torched to perfection & the noodles packs a super umami taste when dipped in the black garlic broth. The only complain I'll have is that the dipping broth does tend to get cold easily & that unlike many other tsukemen shops, Menya doesn't offer dashi stock to pour into the broth for customers to drink up their soup at the end of the meal. Overall, it's a definitely YES from me for it's affordability & it's deliciousness! The black garlic soup & the springy noodles topped with bamboo shoots, spring onions and garlic really makes a great meal! Remember to brace yourself for the subsequent food coma though 😂

First time trying a food court styled Mala & man it was good! This bowl came up to $14.80 which is obviously more expensive than a regular coffeeshop/hawker Mala bowl. Paid $3 for the base and the items are self service, pick and they will weigh it for you accordingly. The bowl was really good, the taste was definitely there & there were cinnamon sticks which constituted part of the base, really giving an oomph factor to the bowl! Can't wait for my next Mala already 🤤 & yes I ate this all by myself 🌚

Visited this aesthetically pleasing shop on a late Saturday night & got 4 mini bentos on their clearance sale at night! This includes an Ikura Don, A5 Wagyu Beef (U.P. $15.80), Unagi Don and a generous serving of 2 slices of Beef Katsu! Portions were small yet big, with a plentiful amount of Ikura decorating the fluffy Japanese rice. The A5 wagyu was streaked with beef fats and melted in my mouth. Beef Katsu was made with fatty cuts of the beef too, and was really flavourful! Unagi don was OK, nothing much to rave about relative to the rest. These mini bentos are actually the creations of chefs @ GO-ZEN, and this Farmer's Market merely sells it as one of the many other things they offer directly from Japan. Next time you're flying off, go check them out! (UNLESS YOU'RE FLYING TO JAPAN THEN DON'T 😂)

Visited Lai Wah on a lazy Sunday afternoon and was greeted with rustic, old school vibes in the quaint restaurant along the Kallang riverside area. Ordered a set meal for 4-5 at $62 which consisted of Yangzhou Fried Rice, Salted Egg Squid, Honey Pork & Veggies. Added a whole chicken for $38 if Im not mistaken & Fried Cereal Beancurd $11 and Venison $15. Their roasted chicken is said to be one of the best but it was pretty OK to me, nothing that special but still good, crispy on the outside but a the meat was a tad too dry for my liking. Venison and Cereal Beancurd was really good though, along with the Yangzhou fried rice which was really tasty! Having a long history since the 60s/70s, Lai Wah has really made a name in the pioneers of Singapore & it's popularity is proven as they've already started taking in reservations for CNY reunion dinner.

Cost - $132 for 6 people!

I'm definitely onto this mala craze sweeping Singapore, I've been eating it on a bi-weekly basis & I can't stop craving for it. Hai Tian Fragrant Hot Pot is an alternative to the other Mala stall @ Bedok interchange. In my opinion, I enjoy Hai Tian's mala more because it's much less oily & the service is better, with more generous portions. Wait times still go up to 20 minutes during peak hours but all is well when I get my hands on a piping hot bowl of fragrant mala! This only cost $9 & prices differ depending on your choice of ingredients! Easties, give this a try! It's my favourite & I like it more than Riri's at Chinatown 🤤

A stone's throw away from Bras Basah MRT & SMU campus, it's a well known & affordable food choice for students in the vicinity. During peak periods, expect queues to snake all the way outside of the coffeeshop, but don't be daunted as the lines clear pretty quick. A must try is their Brinjal with Minced Pork which is my absolute favourite. They serve up quite a few salted egg dishes on certain days like salted egg chicken and fish, along with the usual cai fan choices! Pro tip: flash your SMU student card for a discount off the already affordable prices!

Amazing roasted ducks served in 8 different ways here. At such an affordable price for Singaporeans, around $20 for 2x quarter ducks, 2x rice & a plate of sambal kangkong, I'd brave the long queues at Checkpoints just for it! It's really flavourful & so rich in it's sauce! It's located really near city square so just walk a little & you'll find it right round the corner. A must try in JB!

Long John's Silvers recently released a whole new range of meals - Chili Crab & Salted Egg dishes where sauces are drizzled on their usual menu items. Got this meal of 2 piece chicken with 3 shrimps drizzled with a generous serving of Salted Egg Yolk sauce accompanied by LJS's amazingly crispy fries (that are so underrated) at $6.30, their promotional price. I've to admit it did get a little gelat at the end of the meal but it was still so good, I love their batter! Do give it a try, I feel that LJS is a really underrated chain which actually serves up one of the best fries out there.

If you don't know about SSB's famous Mon/Thurs promo...you're probably not a fan of sashimi. 🖐🏼 Every Monday & Thursday, freshly prepared cuts of salmon sashimi goes at a steal at $3++ for 5 F I V E pieces! The salmon slices might have shrunk a little since I first had it in 2014 but it's still a steal! Ordered a rockstar roll at $16.90++ which was a little pricey for 8 pieces :( Either way I'll definitely be coming back very soon for their sashimi deal considering it's proximity to my school. 🤤
