This plate of fresh & creamy sashimi was sliced on the spot upon choosing it at the counter. Both Salmon & Mekajiki was about $20, with the Mekajiki being more expensive. Despite the higher price tag for a smaller portion of Mekajiki, it was really worth the money! The mekajiki doesn't taste special when you take a first bite but as you chew on the flavour really comes out - the creamy-ness & fresh ocean flavour comes out & that's when you know it's money well spent. πŸ˜€ The other dishes on the other hand were more affordable, with sides like Mentaiko only $3 a serving, a perfect accompaniment to a bowl of sushi rice, $3 too if I'm not wrong. Soft shelled crabs were also fried well. Love the food here. πŸ˜‹

Came during the 1 for 1 for mains from 11am-5pm(?) Monday to Friday. Barachirashi was $19.80 without discount. Food took sooo long to serve, considering that this is a raw dish there shouldn't be that much preparation involved right? πŸ€” Mekajiki was fishy...pretty average and not worth the money if not for the promotion they had. Definitely recommend MOF's Japanese desserts tho. They are really awesome (but pricey too). The toasted mochi with soft serves are the best!

Got my cravings satisfied at the Simpang Bedok Branch! Few days ago I went to the Maxwell branch but was disappointed with the pathetic amount of chicken atop my rice despite ordering the medium size @ $5. This time, I ordered half a bird @ $14+, (maxwell's branch is priced at $12 nett) rice was at $0.80+ per portion & a good plate of chicken gizzards at $4+. Portion was very (overly) filling for 1 hungry tummy & 1 small tummy. Chicken was perfect - the gelatin skin was πŸ˜‹, and the sauce which the chicken was bathed in was super tasty! Chili was excellent....I don't usually take chili, but this was soooo good. Service was good too, fully air conditioned, thus there was a service charge too. Head over to this branch for those who can't stand the heat. Will definitely visit again and order the same amount. P.s. Despite it being too much for 2, we still finished the whole meal. Haha.

Got the medium Chicken Rice from the famed TianTian Chicken Rice @ Maxwell Food Centre. Medium was $5 and regular was $3.50. My friend got the $3.50 portion and got double the amount of chicken of my measly portion of chicken. Asked the auntie if it was a mix up, she said no, the $3.50 one has a wing and bones while my $5 was pure breast meat. Pretty disappointing. Paid $5 for this measly plate of chicken rice....not worth it. Just get the half chicken if you plan to eat there! Sauce drizzled over the chicken rice was good though. I'm just really salty that my $5 'medium' chicken rice had such a pathetic amount of meat while my friend's $3.50 plate was loaded with meat.

Finally visited the (once) raved about Western Co. Kudos to the new (& very young) management for trying to provide good service with smiles despite the peak period. Visited on a Sunday noon time, and it was almost full house. Ordered the Ying Yang Signature Combo for $20.90 including a $5 raclette cheese top up along with Chicky Burger $16.90 & Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom Sauce $9.90. I understand that they were pretty much understaffed & it got to a point where orders were mixed up & customers who ordered later got their food earlier than customers who ordered way earlier. 45 minutes into my wait after placing my order, one dish appeared. 1 hour later, (I'm not kidding), another dish arrived and yet another 1 hour 20 minutes later, the last dish (finally) arrived. The staff did come over to apologise for the wait but to be honest such a long wait is really unacceptable considering how the crowd started to clear out after awhile. When my signature Ying Yang combo came, it came without the raclette cheese I paid $$$ to top up for and they had to take it to the back again to scrape the cheese off the wheel. & they took another 5 minutes to do so. Food was substandard & below average & definitely not worth the prices paid. Nothing worth raving about. If the management wants to make it, they definitely have to do something about the way they're managing the order flow, no one is going to wait an hour for a battered fish...

If you're looking for value, taste & convenience for lunch in JB, head over to Kam Long which is just down the road from City Square Mall (5mins walk). Kam Long is well known for their curry fish head, to a point where they only have ONE dish. That's right, curry fish head. It comes in small, medium & large for both fish head & tail & even comes in a one person portion. For 2, I got the medium curry fish head @ RM35. Served in a claypot, the dish was bubbling when served. I expected myself to get tired of eating halfway due to the usual coconut milk doused in curries but this was an exception, the gravy was superb, with veggies & beancurd skin decorated over the fresh fish. When we were done, the gravy was almost gone. At such a price, it is a must go whenever you're in JB. Tip: avoid peak hours as queues can get pretty long. Tip2: Order the large rice, the small rice is really, really, small. Tip3: It's a typical shophouse with no aircon so don't expect too much, just simple & no frills decor. The only complaint I have was that the fish head I got wasn't really meaty for a 'medium' size one so you may want to consider getting the large one.

The Replacement definitely wins in terms of aesthetics, marble walls, funky warm lights, minimalistic accents; but in terms of food, the Churros with Salted Egg Dip was pretty average at RM16.90. Long & freshly fried sticks of churros came with a salted egg dip, which was pretty tasteless as compared to the usual 'salted egg' flavours. Had a cup of chocolate with it at RM11, which I'd recommend because it carried a rich cocoa flavour, a sip & you'll know what Im talking about. It wasn't crowded on a Tuesday afternoon but food service was a little long, but it's still acceptable. Do give it a try if you're in the area, I'd definitely come back for the great service rendered & the minimalistic cafe decor!

Found 1 minute away from Taiseng MRT, Cafe Flame is well known for its 4 tier cheesy pagoda due to an advert by a popular food blogger, which also explains the strong BBQ smell in the cafe, and despite opened windows, ventilation was really bad. Went there at 8pm and it was filled with people and the design of the place made the place pretty noisy with voices echoing about the place. Opted for the western menu, got a salmon on waffles ($12.90+), and the waffles were a miss, soggy and cold. The truffle fries were freshly fried and the 'fried chicken wings' were terrible as seen from the picture. 2 appetizers for $18, it was really quite a rip off for the substandard food. BBQ chicken was also $12.90+. Sadly will not visit again, it was not value for money at all and very overpriced. Coupled with the bad ventilation and noisy atmosphere, along with servers which were hard to call over, I wouldnt recommend this cafe.

Really good chicken claypot rice ($12.50+) aromatic & doused with black soya sauce, the chicken claypot never disappoints and is the star of the stall. Nestled in a quiet Eunos industrial kopitiam, it serves up a pretty good range of food. Relatively cheaper than many zi chars out there, another recommended must try is their sambal brinjal ($6.80) and har cheong kai ($6.80) which came in chicken fillets. Their much raved about crispy pork trotter was more of a miss though, pretty dry and not for my liking. Overall Id recommend this place for those living in the east! :)

With a recent change in management as MOF takes over & changes it to Daessiksin, the quality of meats remain ever so affordable and good. At $14.90++ per head, it really is a steal compared to the other alacarte KBBQ joints around. The lunch buffet has a relatively modest selection, with basic meat cuts like pork belly & collar, marinated chicken & beef cuts, it is enough for most people out there who aren't particular about the quality of meat. The side dishes were more of a miss, except for the Glass noodle which is a definte must try. Overall it was a great experience with the free flow drinks, meat, carbs. Recommended for a casual BBQ!

Recently opened in Viva Business Park @ Chai Chee, Andes is a halal branch of popular western food chain Astons. The food served here is inexpensive, fresh & of consistent quality. Double Up Chicken ($14.50) comes with two sides (potato salad is awesome!). Prices here are nett too :)
