Doggo and I were stuck on a huge downpour and were lucky to stumble on this newly opened Japanese yakitori that just happens to be dog-friendly outdoors! The server was incredibly kind and friendly to my dog, they said they often have big dogs there too!
The garlic fried rice was fragrant and well-done and a small eater mains portion. They served me a freebie of fried banana while I waited. Just happened to be craving cod that day so it was amazing they had it. The size turned out to be a small appetizer size but on hindsight I should’ve expected it given the price. Cod is never cheap! The vegetable tempura was also lovely and they had a number of draughts on tap. Just so so glad to have another dog- friendly option in the neighbourhood. We all know how rare truly dog- friendly places are!

Newish stall alert! Soondubu (korean/ japanese tofu stew) is one of my favourite things and it is practically my dream come true to have a hawker-priced one open up near me. So I was really keen to try this!

It turned out to be nothing like any soondubus I had tried before. The portion was very generous and soup base was quite tasty even though my amateur tongue cannot tell if it’s added seasoning. Pretty amazing that they are offering refills of soup rice and kimchi ( not sure if there are any t&cs). Halfway through the meal I realised it’s different cos this feels more Chinese style rather than Korean. The rice is white rice instead of sticky rice, and the soup base was quite tasty but feels like a broth our Chinese mothers would make.. no hint of spice at all. Tofu texture also feels very much like tow hway ( soya beancurd). Tried googling it to see if it was a Chinese-Korean franchise ( should be easy since 400 outlets worldwide?) but found nothing. Someone enlighten me! Happy to have the option when craving hits though. Their specialty is of cos bibimbap which I didn’t try.

This is still such fantastic value after all these years! The sea prawns in the prawn ban mian were super large and fresh, and just for $5.50!

This was excellent value with or without the BURPPLE deal. Pad thai was Yummy with 2 large plump prawns , 1 mussel, some sotong rings and crunchy beansprouts. I also appreciate that they did the burpple deal on takeaways. My family who had the tom yum fried rice said it was good too, albeit quite a lot of chilli padi (despite that she is a big spice eater). Added mango salad as an add on

What I had problems with was the service. Im not the self entitled type who demands excellent service, much less in hawker. However the staff (pigtails) was exceptionally surly throughout ( I wrote it off as busy). But before I placed my burpple order , i told her abt the redemption and asked her to check that my order was valid. In the end she overcharged me $0.9. When asked, she said one of the dishes was not valid for redemption so they gave me the mango salad free instead ( what would they hv done if i didn't order additional mango salad?). However the redemption fulfilled all requirements ( rice or noodle and not in redemption exclusions). And if that were true they could’ve pointed it out when i asked her to check when placing the order? Then she angrily asked me how much i should get refunded and eventually gave me the money. Its good standard for hawker thai, you just need not to care about service and check your bill

Always a pleasure visiting the most underrated bakery in Toa Payoh! No I’m not eating all of these myself, but these are just a snapshot of the sweet treats I’m sending out to people for christmas, to celebrate making it to the end of the year! The nutella cookies have always been my favourite, it’s a crowd pleaser. But on this trip I discovered the pistachio & cranberry cookies… it wasn’t as impressive as the nutella on first bite, but gosh it was amazingly addictive! Not sweet at all, crisp and the nuts were so fresh and how do I say this… real. Each piece was irregularly sized, handmade perfectly imperfect in my opinion. I also discovered the milo coffee swiss roll on this trip, best one so far… richer & creamier than the rest! ❤️
