Those who don't like the fishy, slimy and muddy smell/ taste of eel aka unagi, fret not coz at Man Man, u don't smell or taste the above 3 things. Its simply Delicious! Its not too salty nor oily. The shop offers 3 types of sauce on the table: spicy, unagi and sweet. I like the spicy and unagi best. I ordered the regular Hitsumabushi set which comes with a soup, spring onions, dashi stock and fresh wasabi. You can eat it in 3 ways. 1st: with the sauce, 2nd: withe the spring onions and wasabi and 3rd, like "porridge:; just swop some rice & unagi to your bowl and add the dashi stock and wow la! U have rice with soup.
I like the broiled unagi as a side order (the price is close to the amt of its broiled or grilled till the edges are brwon n crisp whereas the unagi in the Hitsumabushiis soft n melts in your mouth
I think if we ordered this burger with beef, it will be good but again my friends don't take beef so we had to choose chicken. Again its too salty for us. Gosh!. What a letdown..
My friends ordered this mac & cheese burger as we really love mac & cheese but on a chicken patty (friends don't take beef). OMG! It was way too salty!! The patty was all right.. am not really a fan of chicken patty when it comes to burger..give me beef anytime! The bun was good though cruchy outside and soft inside. Fries were crisp even after a while.
I think my burger was called sugar and everything (something like that). I chose wagyu as the patty, it was juicy but was hinder by the jam. I wish they didn't overcooked the egg! I was expecting the yolk to run the down the burger..sigh. Overall it was Good! Onion rings were good but I wished it was less oily. The batter soaked up lots of oil
I ordered the spicy tendon set which comes with a small bowl of udon. Trust me its not spicy at all for S'pore standard unless you belong to the group who don't touch spicy food at all. However the sauce is way too salty and i can't balance off the saltiness as the tempura were drenched with the sauce and some part of the rice also had the sauce. The best tempura is the chicken breast as all other reviewers commented; it was very tender and juicy despite it being fried. The rest were normal. I still prefer Tendon Ginza Itsuki at tanjong pagar though one smell like the fying oil after but the tempura and the onsen egg tasted so fresh and awesome! Its just worth smelling like the frying oil.
Out of the 5 dishes, I like the century egg chicken porridge and the chicken feet. The porridge tasted exactly like those you find in cantonese restaurants and the chicken feet were very Q, firm, flavorful and full of collagen!! You can go there to load on collagen! The chee chong fun was too thick and the siew mai had too much lean meat, can't taste any prawn and was way too compact (its like eating very dense healthy meatballs) and its not as flavorful nor taste like the norm siew mai. Same goes for the fried shrimp dumpling, too compact too much lean meat hence making it "tough" and tasteless.
I had the spicy tendon set. It came with a very normal udon and the star aka Spicy sauce Tendon. I read a review of a food blogger saying the sauce is spicy even for S'pore standard which is so not true though i would say the sauce is too salty. Surprisingly the chicken breast is still very tender and juicy even after all the frying. The rest of the items like the prawns, pumpkin, mushroom, long beans are pretty expected. Waited for about 30mins as the eatery has only a few seats. I still prefer Tendon Ginza Itsuki even though it has bad ventilation, their tempura taste "fresher" and it has that onsen egg- a big plus!
Ma Shan Tang in Taiwan. Everything was good! The beef soup has duck or pig's blood , beansprout, beancurd..etc.. it was fulfilling and so full bodied! At 1st glance the majang for the noodles looked too diluted but after mixing and putting it in my mouth, it was simply flavorful and oh so good! Definitely a place to go.
Yeah! I am so happy that I don't have to q for Tsuta Ramen; ThE Michelin star ramen! And they do deserve that star! The noodles are so chewy that the moment i chew it, i lurve it! And the noodles doesn't have that starchy texture and no noodle smell (if you know what i meant). They only have shoyu and shio; original or less salt. I had the original shoyu and its not that salty. I skip shio as my past experience was its just salty with no taste... maybe next time i will try the shio version.
Usually specialized bbq/grill meat places do not have great desserts plus am not a sweet tooth person but surprisingly they do a great chocolate lava with smoked vanilla ice cream. Yes the ice cream has a smoky smell and taste.. we can taste hints of bacon. I was afraid that the cake would be overly sweet but to our amazement, they used dark chocolate hence the sweetness was just right for our palate and the "lava" really oozed out! Great choice my friend!
Sides: "Dirty" fried rice aka fried rice with chicken liver and chicken bits. This was such a chinese dish! Pit has that "wok-hei" a fried rice should have..definitely a must order.
Mac & cheese: a letdown..i would pass it of as a dried cream pasta. The cheese was way too little to declare it as mac & cheese!
Mains: i love the beef brisket! It was so tender, so succulent and oh so juicy!! I can even taste a hint of that milky flavor.
We ordered the dry rub pork ribs and they even gave us their house bbq sauce on the side. It wasn't as tender as i expected but still it was easily tore off the bone and i like it that i can gnawed on the bone. The seasoning was just right, not too salty and the bbq sauce was also just right.
Starters: Fried chicken bao! Its not a bad combi but the battermix was a tad too salty. The beef bone marrow was just so-so.. too oily for me though.
Skip the pork crackling, its just crispy and has that strong porky smell. The apple cinnamon puree which was at placed at the bottom though kinda camouflage the smell but it just an odd combi.
