We were looking for a place to chill on a very hot day and need a break from our journey by foot to Tiong Bahru. Step into this cafe and notice that it is ready for a full lunch service. We check if we can just have a coffee instead of full lunch. 😜

They are so welcoming & mention that although they don’t have cold brew but they can provide us with a good coffee. Checking through the menu, let’s just say they are very much in love with number ‘8’ & so are we! 8️⃣

The chocolate lava cake is soft, moist & so satisfying with vanilla ice cream $8.80. We got a free wi-fi to enjoy while having some drinks with dessert. We will definitely come back for their mains not only because of food but the hospitality & lucky vibe! 🍀

Eight Café & Bar offers quite a decent range of Western and local delicacies, and it's quite ambient when the restaurant is not occupied with big groups of people (tends to get a little noisy). Today I had one of their items in the two-course Dinner Set which is this Homemade Swedish Meatballs (S$22.80 for the set, comes with Soup or Salad of the Day) with smoked tomato marinara sauce, served with rice and vegetables.
I noticed that they serve a number of their mains with a mix of brown and white rice, and that is actually good for people who want less processed carbohydrates.
However, the meatballs did not score for my dinner. Even though it's definitely bigger than the IKEA meatballs, but something seems to be missing in them that makes them a little dry on the inside. Or perhaps I should just cut it into pieces and then cover it with the sauce to give it more appeal?
A simple dish of two fried chicken thighs served with wedges and salad on the side. It was fried rather nicely, and the batter was just right - it wasn't too thick either. However overall the dish was a little too fried for me, and it got a little bit gelat towards the end.
A play on BBQ seafood at hawker centres, this dish was nonetheless good as well. Sambal had the balanced level of spiciness and the fish was cooked to perfection.
Skin was baked to crisp, the sauce was good and loved the mash. Simple dish made my day.
Didn't taste that exotic but it was certainly delicious! Seafood - two huge prawns and mussels, and a scallop that goes really well together with the creamy laksa sauce. The place is nice and cosy too but just a little too dim for nice photos.
The roasted rack of lamb is DIVINE! Lamb is tender and juicy. The bed of potato gratin is to die for - creamy and cheesy goodness. Very different from your usual risotto. It drier but floating on a creamy white wine seafood sauce and surrounded by prawns, mussels and scallop. Clean flavours with a hint of chilli. Amazing! And there is no need to peel the freshly cooked prawn! A glass of recommended Portuguese White wine goes very well with it. #8cafe #burpple #foodporn
The juicy and succulent foie gras and poached egg + burnt hollandaise sauce made up for the really awkward interior. I cleaned off my plate within minutes. The foie gras had a thin crispy layer and as you slice through it unveils a soft juicy texture. Yummmm. But you first have to get past yourself on dining in an awkward interior setting
I know. This burnt cream dessert is layered with caramel, thus making it really sweet. But this was way too sweet.
One of the best laksa pasta I've had. Many were attempting a poor fusion of it. But this was simply marvelous.
