I get super excited when I see so much seafood on my plate of La-la White Beehoon ($8/$12/$16) so this rendition from Le Xiao Chu really got me drooling! ๐คค๐คค๐คค Needless to say, the generous amount of fresh seafood imparted that natural sweetness to the broth, bringing with it umami in every slurp. ๐
.
The white beehoon absorbed the essence of that gravy well, hence tasted extremely rich with a nice bite (thankfully not too soggy!) ๐๐ป Albeit a tad too salty, I liked the eggy fragrance of the broth & all the seafood on this plate. โค The vegetables also provided a good crunch amidst the overall slurping soft textures. ๐
.
Quite a decent plate of la-la white beehoon I would say! Pretty addictive also - it got me going for a second serving! ๐

Tried 2 of Le Xiao Chuโs signatures:
.
๐น๏ธSignature Pigโs TROTters ($28): Looked promising as the huge pig trotters was perfectly browned from the roast. ๐๐๐ However, I found that it was overly cooked. While I very much enjoyed the crisp exterior, the meat was overly tough & dry - definitely not the moist & tender texture that I was looking forward to. ๐ Things were better for parts where there was more fats as the fats graciously lent some grease to the surrounding meat, making it more succulent. For the chunks of lean meats, I felt like I was eating pork jerky. ๐คฃ
.
THE SAUCE THOUGH was a winner for me. ๐ A harmonious blend of lemongrass, garlic, sugar, vinegar/lime, chilli etc., it was like a Thai sweet chilli sauce concoction. ๐๐ป Extremely refreshing & complementary to the meat! ๐๐ป
.
๐น๏ธFragrant Spicy Fish Head (้้ฆ้ฑผๅคด, $26): Instead of the usual curry fish head, this rendition was a dry one, stir-fried with turmeric, curry leaves, curry powder, garlic, chilli padi etc. While I enjoyed the robust flavours of the seasoning very much ๐๐๐, the fish chunks seemed overcooked (probably deep-fried too long b4 stir-frying). Wished the meat was more tender & moist.
.
So these signatures didnโt leave me impressed. Perhaps one should go for their highly-recommended claypot seafood porridge, or just stick to their normal tze char dishes which are decent too!ย ๐
Located along Balestier Road, their specialty was the claypot seafood porridge, or this lobster porridge that came with prawns and mini abalones. Porridge had a good consistency and was flavourful in that appealing golden yellow colour.
Alternatively, one could go for the crab porridge and top up more seafood such as prawns, scallops, etc. Also look out for sides dishes on their menu great to go along with the porridge. A good choice to feast for supper!

.
Nested along Balestier Road is Le Xiao Chu, a restaurant offering seafood & tze char dishes at a relatively affordable price. Bright, spacious, clean & air-conditioned - this sure is a comfy place for a meal. ๐ It opens till 4.30am so this makes yet another potential supper spot!
.
Here are some of the dishes that we tried:
.
๐น๏ธCai Po Beancurd ่่ฏ่ฑ่
($10/$18) - Preserved radish was fried to the perfect golden brown & lay in abundance atop the soft & silky smooth tofu. ๐คฉ Glad that the soy sauce wasnโt too salty as the cai po added some savoury flavours besides a nice crunch! My favourite dish! ๐
.
๐น๏ธSambal Ladyโs Finger ($10/$16) - the ladyfingers were well-prepared with less slime flowing all over. Sambal chilli gave a nice spicy kick & was extremely fragrant after stir-frying with dried shrimps & onions etc. Went very well with rice! ๐๐๐ This was a close fight for my top spot.
.
๐น๏ธPrawn Omelette ($10/$14) - pretty light & fluffy, liked that it was not overly greasy. ๐๐ป However, there werenโt many prawns so not really value-for-money IMO.
.
๐น๏ธBaby Kai Lan ($10/$16) - liked this too! A simple dish of baby kai lan stir-fried with savoury salted fish & fragrant garlic. ๐
.
๐น๏ธGinger Chicken Cube ($12/$24) - tasted surprisingly sweet instead of savoury. Texture of the chicken cubes were quite tough too. Coupled with the fact that Iโm not a fan of ginger, I didnโt really like this. ๐
.
I think the best part would be the ambience & comfort - u can safely sit here & catch up with family & friends over decent fuss-free & homely dishes. They have a 10% discount from 11am-5pm (for dine-in only, excludes set meals & crabs), which is not a bad deal! โ๐ป
