[CLOSED] Wei Nan Wang Hock Kian Lor Mee (Market Street Hawker Centre)

Easily one of the more popular stalls at Market street hawker centre, with long queues during lunch hour. I joined the queue; having read the online reviews, I thought it might be worth a shot. Unfortunately, their take on lor mee didn’t quite wow me. Also possibly one of the less impressive lor mee I’ve tried (Tiong Bahru, Amoy Street/Whampoa). Perhaps I arrived at a bad timing - there weren’t much of noodles selections available and I ended up having a mix of beehoon and yellow noodles. Noodles aside, the fried fish was mediocre. The other accompaniments (eg. Fried balls) were bland and to be honest, I couldn’t quite figure out what they were. Was it meat balls? Or mildly seasoned Ngoh-hiang? It’s very much over-hyped!

Large Lor Mee - each bowl of lor mee was teeming with ingredients such as handmade meatballs, pork skin, crispy fried crackers, and sliced braised lean meat.

What sets this lor mee stall apart from the rest might be their gravy, which was more soupy rather than starchy like the rest. But that said, it certainly did not affect its flavours and remains one of the better stalls I have tried around this hawker.⁣

Who loves lor mee as much as i do and where is the best lor mee in singapore?! :)

It's hard to find a decent lor mee (or braised noodles) these days but Wei Nan Wang at the Golden Shoe Temporary Market does a good version of it. The braised meat and fried bits are all great but I personally wish the gravy can be a little thicker!
