Once you get past the strong fermented scent, digging into the Impossible Burger at Stamford Brasserie was a pleasant surprise. Strangely does taste like real meat!
Unfortunately, it didn’t wow me enough to justify the price that impossible meats are normally tagged with.
I had visited TSB once before and quite enjoyed my meal then, so this was disappointing in comparison. We shared the TSB burger ($26++) which was highly rated but we found the “wagyu” patty dry, crumbly and cold. We actually enjoyed the brioche pepper bun more. Our other item was the roasted baby chicken ($22++), which fared better. While not flavourful, the chicken was at least moist and tender. We enjoyed the grilled brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potato - these gave flavour that the chicken was otherwise lacking. Service left much to be desired as it was difficult to get hold of the servers for simple things like water and the bill. Hoping that TSB will perform better on the next visit!
I am a Yellowcarnivore because I generally love my meat and lack an affinity with most vegetables (opps). Having said that, I have been curious to try The Impossible Burger for the longest time ever because of the amazing reviews online. I finally tried The Impossible Burger ($23) at The Stamford Brasserie and I can only say that the reviews are true: how can a plant-based patty tastes so much like a legit medium-seared beef patty😱! The patty is juicy and flavourful - a little on the salty side but not that I mind given my salty tooth. I guess the unsalted chips at the side balanced it out:P The delicious patty goes well with melted cheese, pickles, tomato and Brioche Pepper bun - didn’t expect it to be this good:)!
Pulled pork sandwiches and burgers are my kind of thing and the Stamford Brasserie does this dish so well!! Will definitely be my goto places if I’m craving pulled pork sandwiches! The sandwich is stuffed with pulled pork and is so juicy and nicely seasoned with BBQ sauce. Yum! This dish is now served
with potato chips - no longer potato wedges!
The restaurant has changed their cooking style of various dishes a bit since the last time I came here to eat. And the new style that they cook this barramundi dish in works just as well as the old style!
The bread crumbs lining the top of the fish gave a crunch texture which was a nice contrast to the soft texture of the fish. The barramundi was cooked just perfectly - meat was tender and not tough/dry! The tomatoes and salad veggie were nicely seasoned as well. Loved this dish!
Roasted chicken was just rightly cooked - chicken meat was not dry. Garlic mash potatoes was a hit! - just the right amount of buttery flavour in it! Brussel sprouts provided a good veggie fix to this dish!
Confit chicken leg (bottom)
Cost: $22
Comes with: Garlic mash potatoes, Brussels sprouts, mustard chicken jus
Personal take: Everything about this dish was great - appropriate portion size (didn’t expect a dish with just a chicken leg to be as sufficiently filling as this); taste wise - flavorful! only gripe is that the confit chicken was on the saltier side but the mash potato and Brussels sprouts were sides that helped to balance out the taste and complemented the confit chicken well. And boy did I mention I am a sucker for mash potatoes! This mash potato passes my expectations too.
Pan-roasted Barramundi Fish (top)
Cost: $22
Comes with: Rucola leaves, vine tomatoes, salsa verde
Personal take: The fish was fresh and cooked to the right doneness. It is definitely a good dish and a safe choice if you are not up for anything adventurous.
Service: Good
Ambience: A cosy place, slightly dim lighting which adds to the cosy and classy vibe. Went on a Sunday evening and it wasn’t too crowded. Good place for a date! 🙂
It’s a pity the place is relatively quiet on a Monday lunchtime .. food is good, place is beautifully renovated and the atmosphere is really comfortable😍
The dish features a about a half of pork rib rack with 4 pieces. The protein is arranged on top of a bed of mixed salads with vinaigrette and halves of grilled potatoes. Price is 26++.
Plus: the rib is the hero of the dish. It is slightly glazed and caramelised outside for deep flavour. The salads and potatoes are nicely prepared
Minus: lacking of a sauce to combine the components together. The meat is a bit dry.
The dish contains a piece of beef cheek braised in red wine, served with mashed potato and sautéed broccolini. The portion looks deceptively small but it is actually quite substantial. The beef cheek is beautifully cooked to the point of softness without disintegration, and still retains the gelatinous of the tendon. Price of 32++ is on the high side, but considering each cow has only two cheeks, you will find it worth trying.
Both mains were flavorful and not overly salty, which I appreciate. The service here was great too! The pulled pork was exceptionally soft and I’ll highly recommend trying it. However the burger was just average but still decent nonetheless. The star that stole the show was the tomato soup - it was creamy and tangy and went very well with the pulled pork sandwich. They soups here have never disappointed. They had a lobster bisque as soup of the day previously and it was the best lobster bisque I’ve had to date.
One Pot Chicken ($22) essentially involves chicken and mashed potatoes baked with cheese, served with a side of crusty sourdough bread. It’s a simple dish, not mind-blowing, but very tasty. It was good comfort food on a cold rainy day. 1 for 1 available on Burpple Beyond and Entertainer 2019.
The Impossible Burger ($23) is a plant-based burger patty. Ordered it out of curiosity, and it did bear striking similarity to a beef patty in terms of texture, but unfortunately it lacked flavor and if you’re a meat eater, I’d say stick with the beef burger. Cheese used was yummy and the buns were great too though! 1 for 1 available on Burpple Beyond and Entertainer 2019
What mochas should strive to be like in terms of chocolate flavour. Super chocolatey, rich and smooth, but quite lacking in coffee aroma or taste. Served my purposes well enough as a sweet beverage to go along with my dinner, but don’t count on this for a perk me up midday.
I’ve been super excited to try Beyond Meat’s patties but couldn’t find them in Fairprice Finest when I went, so although I was drawn in by the signature TSB Burger, all thoughts of ordering that were thrown to the wind once the Impossible Burger caught my eye.
The burger comprises a Beyond Meat patty with a slice of melted cheese, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, sandwiched between brioche pepper buns. It’s also served with some house-made chips.
At first glance, the burger looks just like any regular beef burger. The likeness is uncanny. Tastewise, the patty is incredible. It’s moist, and the texture is virtually indistinguishable from a real meat patty when eaten as a whole burger. I’m not a huge beef burger fanatic so maybe I’m not such a great judge for meat texture, but I think it could fool most people. I absolutely loved this burger, and I’d order it over a regular beef patty in a heartbeat. The brioche pepper buns add a special bit of pepper kick, which was great. I wasn’t such a fan of the pickles in the burger, so I ended up taking them out.
The chips were ok, not super special but they were crispy and not too oily which is pretty much all you can ask for in potato chips anyway.
BBQ Pork Ribs ($27)- Tender pork ribs in BBQ sauce, grilled baby potatoes, salad. The BBQ sauce is quite well balanced and not overly sweet.
One Pot Chicken Stew ($22++)- Chicken, mash potatoes, carrots topped with parmesan cheese. The cheese adds an extra depth of flavour to this dish. Overall quite a good experience! Especially worth it with our burpple beyond app
Taste of wagyu beef was really good, albeit the patty meat patty texture being a little coarse. Comes with tapioca and potato chips. Overall a good burger and very worth with burpple beyond 1-1
4 pieces of fall off the bones ribs with strips of potato. Nothing to shout about for the bbq sauce. Price seem to have risen slightly from the menu attached in Burrple beyond. Good cosy atmosphere for a date night.
