Crispy Fried Oyster
Stir-fried White Water Snowflake Stems
Deep-fried Intestine
Transported right to Taiwan, the Deep Fried Pork Intestines ($10) isn’t for everyone as it was unmistakably “porky” (though well-cleaned). However, the accompanying condiment which I believe is a spiced salt-pepper powder mix really helped counter the “offal-y” taste. The spring onions stuffed in the center also provided a nice aroma. The highlight was the texture as the crisp exterior was done wonderfully - like a thin crackly pork skin and the inside was soft and slightly chewy.
With quite an extensive menu, 台ONE味 Tai One Wei really delivered with their no-frills Taiwanese-style ‘zi char’. To start, the quintessential Taiwanese staple and a must-order is their Braised Pork Rice ($3) where you can put in the request for less rice and more meat. Savoury and melty, the pork was well-braised and had a great fat-to-meat ratio. Not too saucy, the braised pork also captured the essence of the comforting spiced braising liquid ( and liked that there wasn’t a strong taste of star anise).
For the greens, we got the promo item Stir-Fried Taiwan Cabbage ($12) with Sakura Ebi. Real homey, the sauce was light and utterly umami as the shrimps imparted a tantalizing sweetness to the dish. The cabbage itself tasted fresh and held lots of crunch too.
