* This place has closed :( Please try somewhere else. * Irori Genshiyaki is Japan's ancient style of grilling over charcoal flame. Fish on skewers are vertically placed over an irori (charcoal bed) and grilled slowly. This grilling method keeps the surface of the fish crispy while retaining the succulence of the meat inside. Alternatively, try our Home-made Dried Fish which is made using a special Japanese fish drying machine that emits heat similar to natural sunlight. The fish is marinated with Sumiya’s special sauce and dried slowly to enhance its taste. Featuring the first-in-Singapore circular Sake dispenser, Sumiya @ Suntec City offers more than 30 kinds of sake in tasting portions. Discover, appreciate and enjoy different kinds of sake in a whole new sake drinking experience.

Expect 20mins wait time. Nicely grilled eel served in a hot dish on a bed of rice. 3 ways of eating it according to the pamphlet provided. Decent.

Egg tempura was something new - lava egg wrapped with tofu skn (?) deep fried to perfection. Other deep fried items like shitake mushrooms, ebi, brocolli, eggplant were well executed.

Beautiful presented. Assorted sushi topped with salmon, ebi, maguro, unagi, tamago, fish roe etc. Served with miso soup, chawanmushi, orange slices and ocha.

Wonderful service, the tuna meat is really tender and good. Staff informed us about the cooking time and always keep us updated about it. Everything are great here. Definitely be back again next time when I can

Their fish is fresh, beer/sake options are wide and their service is top notch.
Their signature, The Kaisen Bara Don Set [$22.80] - salmon, ikura, minced tuna, avocado and tamogoyaki all condensed into one amazing bowl of goodness. Together with a side of chawamushi, miso soup and fruit, the meal is very complete. For this quality and for their quantity, I can assure you that you will not regret ordering this. It had been reported on their webpage to be one of the Top 15 Chirashi Don Sets in Singapore using premium fresh seafood airflown into Singapore 2-3 times a week. I personally enjoyed every single mouthful of their fresh sashimi with their bed of decadent Japanese short grain rice.

I usually go in the weekend afternoon, the place is almost never crowded at that timing. It is a laid back restaurant where I can really relax and have a good meal together with my friends and family.
Beyond good food, you will be glad to know that Sumiya has All Day Happy Hour, with Sapporo Draft Beer [$4.80++ for 330ml ; $42.80++ for 3.2L]. It is ALWAYS a good idea to order some beer after your meal, especially at this price. Where else in Suntec City can you get beer for less than $5? I personally feel that this is definitely a good deal that you shouldn’t miss out on.
If you’re in the area, you really should go to
Sumiya to have a bite. It is one of the best, if not the best Japanese Restaurant in Suntec City.

Tldr: Fresh Fish. Good ambience and service. Cheap beer. -Foodier ✌🏻

Available on Sumiya’s off peak menu, Sumiya’s Tendon isn’t quite the one from Tendon Kohaku but is relatively decent per se. Coming with Tempura Prawn and assorted vegetables with Tempura Egg; the bowl is well-portioned and is definitely as substantial as any other Tendons out there. All the Tempura pieces were considerably crisp with a light batter that wasn’t too greasy, though the batter for the cauliflower was particularly dense and floury — not particularly pleasant as compared to the other Tempura pieces in the same bowl. Still, a rather decent option to go for, though it’s neighbour (ahem, Tendon Kohaku) is definitely one that is hard to beat.
