Slightly better for sure, it's heartier with a hard char and better crust. The texture is similar actl but since this is a denser bread it works.
Then again not good enough to travel for, not at this standard today
This wasn't too good, I trust aggs&xi so the only logical explanation is a consistency issue
The butter was fine but not cold, Kaya is decent too. The bread is sub average, not fluffy at all nor very crispy
Passable, definitely not worth travelling
This toast was good too, it’s lightly crispy outside, but rather soft and fluffy inside. The kaya is great as usual, and again they give a lot of butter. Between the two, I prefer the French loaf, but give me this anytime and I’ll still happily eat it.
Ahhh this was super good. The French loaf had those nice crisp edges bc of the browned skin of the bread, which I absolutely enjoyed. The bread is more dense and substantial than regular toast so it’s actl quite filling. I like the Hainanese kaya here, it’s sweet and aromatic without being overly saccharine. They’re super generous with the butter here, perhaps a bit too much butter for my liking but I can’t complain. The butter drips out when I bite into the bread anyway so it’s all cool. Come early for this! Once I arrived at 10+am on a weekday but it was too late, they had already sold out of this.
Done right! Fluffy white bread, sufficient butter and charcoal grilled. ($1.20)
Unlike other traditional kaya toasts, the toast here was more soft-and-fluffy rather than thin-and-crisp. The charcoal marks on the bread added to the visual appeal though. That said, I am fully on-board this variarion of kaya toast because the combination of the soft white bread, sweet kaya and cold slab of butter just works. It doesn't sound super appetising but you really just have to try it for yourself!!
