From the Burpple community

This poke spot in TTDI ranks high on our community's list for fresh and healthy bowls. Choose from the ready-made options like Shoyu Salmon (RM20), or the community-fave Spicy Salmon (RM20) – a solid combo of Sriracha and kewpie mayo. Then, pick your base (brown rice, white rice and quinoa) and pair it with the range of fresh proteins (salmon, tuna and shrimp). For the finishing touch, dress it with a wide range of toppings available – from edamame to pickled radish and ginger to fresh fruits like mango.

Look forward to hearty bowls loaded with fresh flavours and ingredients at this poke bowl shop. Choose from the prefixed options, or build your own – the protein selection ranges from tuna to salmon and shrimp.

Quite blown away by the flavours of this one! The salmon cubes, coated in a spicy, umami-packed marinade, blends well with brown rice for a foolproof combi. Meanwhile, edamame, sweet corn, onions and an appropriate amount of toppings (furikake for the win) supplemented with crunch and a burst of fresh flavours. At times felt like the frilly piece of lettuce got in the way of my gobbling down that poke but alas, the annoying piece of green came in handy to end the meal on a clean note. Good spot in TTDI to swing by, grab lunch with an unsweetened green tea.

Poke bowl is the latest healthy food trend to hit KL which is an awe inspiring bowl of healthy ingredients like brown rice or just plain with rice with condiments and the awe important protein which is the fish! Hearing great things about this magical Poke Bowl that made it a must try thing for a foodie or even an average joe getting on the bandwagon of healthy lifestyle.. This Poke Bowl place called the Paperfish which is actually owned by Dennis Yen.. The shop is actually located just behind the row of Kukus Stim Nasi Lemak and it's quite noticeable with its green paperfish signage.. This place is actually very open and simple with a wall of paperfish crowding around.. The moment you enter the eatery, you will see it has a clean vibe pulsing through and you just need to wake your way through the sea of tables to get to their Poke counter.. In that counter you will be greeted by the paperfish people and the illuminated menu.. The option here are quite straightforward as there is only Salmon & Tuna as the protein but they have 3 different sort of flavourings going on.. Besides that, there is also the superfood option too.. For this visit, I opt for the Umami Shoyu Salmon Poke Bowl(Rm16.90) which consist of a base to choose from either white or brown rice/greens or quinoa (additional rm1.90) with the toppings of greens, seaweed, cherry tomatoes, fish roe, edamame, onions, spring onions and sesame seeds.. I opted for their brown rice which is well cooked and it's quite bland on its own but together with the Shoyu Salmon; it's really quite packed with clean flavours of salty with some crunchy and sweet texture from white onions, the edamame and also seaweed.. It is truly a heaven for any foodie that just love honest and clean flavours or just like to eat clean to balance out all the naughty scrumptious food that we have on other days.. Don't expect any service in this eatery as it's all self service.. Great food but mediocre service..

Poke bowls are of contemporary Hawaiian cuisine which is traditionally made from raw tuna, served on rice with a garnishing of vegetables and layered with sauce. The modern interpretation of this dish internationally is highly influenced by Japanese cuisine which is apparent in the Hawaiian local diaspora.

The best thing about most poke restaurants today is the ability for you to choose what you want. This bowl was served with raw spicy salmon, served with julienned wakame, edamame, sweetcorn, a poached egg and garnished with furikake (dried bonito fish, seasoning, sugar, salt and MSG), pickled ginger, takuan (pickled radish) and drizzles of sriracha mayo. I also added some chuka idako (Japanese-Chinese style seasoned baby octopus) for RM5. My advice when selecting your ingredients is to choose what will give you the most umami punch. Honestly, Paperfish does one of the best poke bowls in Kuala Lumpur.
