When it comes to claypot rice in Singapore, New Lucky Claypot Rice stands out as one of my absolute favorites. Located in Holland Drive, this humble eatery has mastered the art of delivering comfort food at its finest.

What sets New Lucky apart is its dedication to tradition. Each claypot rice is cooked to order over charcoal from scratch, ensuring a dish that is steeped in flavor and authenticity. The wait might be a little longer, but trust me, it’s well worth it.

The rice is the star of the show – soft, chewy, and perfectly cooked, with each grain wonderfully separable from the rest. The smoky aroma from the charcoal elevates the dish, while the flavorful medley of marinated chicken, Chinese sausage, salted fish, and vegetables ensures every bite is satisfying. Drizzle on their house-made dark soy sauce and mix it all together for a harmonious blend of savory goodness.

New Lucky Claypot Rice delivers an unforgettable experience that keeps me coming back. If you’re craving one of the best claypot rice in town, this is the place to be!

Come late or if you did not pre-order beforehand and you will not be able to get an order in for this claypot rice. Cooked over charcoal fire, you can taste the alluring smoky fragrance from each bite and the crispy rice at the bottom is an addictive crunch. The chicken is tender and the claypot also comes with a good amount of Chinese sausage. Give it a good mix after adding in the soy sauce and oil, and you will get a bowl of flavours and texture.

This was a $15/2pax claypot rice but with added ingredients starting from $5! Highly recommend adding ingredients because it really makes the whole meal such a treat. I love the warm feeling claypot rice gives, and here you have all the freedom to put as much soy sauce and oil that you want to get the flavours and textures out. My only gripe is that I did not seem taste any salted fish - which might mean that they were too stingy with it even in this huge claypot. Overall, got a nice delicious meal to satisfy the claypot rice craving but remember to call ahead to make sure there’s still enough for you!

Decent but not my type of Claypot rice. I preferred more salted fish..

Checked out the traditional charcoal fired Claypot rice that’s been on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list for a few years. The mixed bowl comes with chicken, lap cheong (Chinese sausage), and salted fish. The effortful charcoal cooking was evident in the subtle smoky aroma and crispy rice crust (but be quick to scrap the sides in or you might just end up with mostly burnt rice 😅). Even so, we found the ingredients and rice to hardly have flavour, requiring more dousing of the dark soya sauce and oil, and pairing with their tangy chilli.

A larger ingredient: rice ratio would have been better, and found the current amount of preserved vegetables to be meagre. Did enjoy the highly tender and juicy chicken, and flavourful sausages.

On a weekday lunch, we avoided long queues/wait and was served in <20 minutes. Overall, decently enjoyable but not particularly wow as expected of the #michelinbibgourmand title.

✨Claypot Rice✨
This is one of the most well-known claypot rice (at least in the west😝) This claypot rice is more burnt than the other stalls I’ve tried, so it may taste more bitter. However, this also means the rice is crispier and a smokier flavour! I personally like really crispy rice so I don’t mind the charcoal taste😋They were also really generous with their tender chicken! But! The chicken came with a lot of sharp bones, which I’ve almost swallowed it a few times. It is also not as salty as I imagined it to be, probably because there wasn’t much cuttlefish in this. Overall, I recommend chewing more and eating it slowly to avoid any problems👍🏻

✨Lotus Root with Pork Ribs Soup (莲藕排骨汤)✨

This soup pairs really well with the claypot rice as it was light, which can act as a palate cleanser while eating the claypot rice. The soup was simple and nothing special, but it felt really refreshing to be eating something else other than the rice.
