It used to be a self-help concept to select from their wide variety of items, and a 1-time serving of their infamous steamed (kukus) coconut rice of any amount.
We loved their variety which tasted good, especially the rice which was significantly fragrant and well-cooked.
Never visited them since they relocated from 2nd to now, their 3rd venue. Was disappointed that theyâre operating like just another stall, with set meal and limited options for top-up.
They have lost the touch in their steamed rice. Fried chicken wing and fish were crispy but just decent. Notably, the mutton Rendang was delicious, but it wasnât going to be enough to draw us back again to the ulu location in the industrial area. Really a shame bâcos we used to remember them for their brighter days.

When my bro and SIL was back in town, they craved Nasi lemak and I thought of trying Nasi lemak kukus that Iâve always wanted to. However they are no longer along selegie, but in Toa Payoh industrial estate 1002 now. I googled again and again before going down to make sure it was right. đ´
.
The Nasi lemak was quite the bomb! $4 for a set with a choice of salted egg wings/ normal. Though it was a pity that the salted egg was oos when I was there. Normal wings batter was pretty legit though. Rice is actually steamed rather than cooked to retain the coconut milk aroma! Thereâs coconut milk aroma all the way to the last bite. The sambal was amazing that we had to get extras.

And while you are at it, definitely order the fried chicken skin at a dollar. You will not regret it. đ´

Mutton rendang($4) was pretty tender though not my favorite dish. Would have still preferred beef.

Yes, thereâs really FREE FLOW rice and sambal chilli, which are two essentials in what sets a great nasi lemak apart from a mediocre one. They definitely didnât scrimp on the coconut rice and sambal chilli as the fragrance from the coconut rice cooked in pandan leaves will instantly hit you as you open the rice cooker while the spicy sambal chilli might seemed unassuming initially but wait for 5 minutes and the spiciness will slowly reveal its fiery nature and cause a slow burn around your lips.

Donât come here and expect a wide array of ingredients because thereâs not; but I feel the variety is more than enough for one to customize their own plate of nasi lemak. Right at the counter, the shop owners have laid out everything from the regular ikan bilis with peanut, hotdogs, otah to the less unconventional ones like fried chicken skin. Flavours will not knock you off the perch but itâs the familiarity and distinctive homecooked taste that will make you keep going back for more. Special mention goes to their deep fried chicken wings which brought back memories of how my grandmother would used to make and the plain generic egg that most take for granted but here, extra effort is put into adding corns and carrot bits into the egg mixture before frying them up, resulting in a crunchy texture.

Jumping on the bandwagon a little too late but well, thankfully I did make my visit now that I am always in the area.
I really like how they feel like a Kampong eatery with that open air kitchen at the back and the garden seating behind; there isnât somewhere that carries the same exact vibes that Nasi Lemak Kukus has. While there is a default Chicken Wing combo to get, the whole point of being here is to help yourselves to the food; the free-flow rice and the condiments with a price list to refer to. Admittedly, there is not much to really hype about the condiments (though the rendang is recommended and is something I have yet to try) â the Chicken Wing was pedestrian, and the Otah Fish Cake was nothing out of the ordinary (but again, what would one expect out of that?). The only condiment worth mentioning that we had on our plate was the fried chicken skin; absolutely crisp and umami â costs $1 for 4 pieces but we could certainly do with more if they were not that pricey. The highlight has to be the rice and the chili â the rice so light, so moist and so fluffy with that evident aroma of coconut that just goes through and through; so much that we have to resist ourselves from getting another serving of rice. The chili was also stellar; they carry two versions â a sweet variant and a spicy variant. While the spicy carries a lot of kick, my heart lies with the sweet one here; itâs distinctively sweet but not overly so, well rounded off without a lingering aftertaste. Wouldnât mind going for it again!
Itâs mix and match, coconut-loaded fried stuff galore! The fragrance of their steamed coconut rice greets you the moment you set foot in this joint. I loved that youâre allowed to pick your own ingredients and how much youâd like to pile on your plate.
Friends introduced me to their âAyam Masak Merahâ; slow braised Spicy Tomato Chicken, which was fork tender and I absolutely love the sauce on their coconut rice. Food is on the slightly pricier side, but definitely tasty and authentic.

Approx 7bucks for everything above.
