It used to be a self-help concept to select from their wide variety of items, and a 1-time serving of their infamous steamed (kukus) coconut rice of any amount.
We loved their variety which tasted good, especially the rice which was significantly fragrant and well-cooked.
Never visited them since they relocated from 2nd to now, their 3rd venue. Was disappointed that theyâre operating like just another stall, with set meal and limited options for top-up.
They have lost the touch in their steamed rice. Fried chicken wing and fish were crispy but just decent. Notably, the mutton Rendang was delicious, but it wasnât going to be enough to draw us back again to the ulu location in the industrial area. Really a shame bâcos we used to remember them for their brighter days.
Jumping on the bandwagon a little too late but well, thankfully I did make my visit now that I am always in the area.
I really like how they feel like a Kampong eatery with that open air kitchen at the back and the garden seating behind; there isnât somewhere that carries the same exact vibes that Nasi Lemak Kukus has. While there is a default Chicken Wing combo to get, the whole point of being here is to help yourselves to the food; the free-flow rice and the condiments with a price list to refer to. Admittedly, there is not much to really hype about the condiments (though the rendang is recommended and is something I have yet to try) â the Chicken Wing was pedestrian, and the Otah Fish Cake was nothing out of the ordinary (but again, what would one expect out of that?). The only condiment worth mentioning that we had on our plate was the fried chicken skin; absolutely crisp and umami â costs $1 for 4 pieces but we could certainly do with more if they were not that pricey. The highlight has to be the rice and the chili â the rice so light, so moist and so fluffy with that evident aroma of coconut that just goes through and through; so much that we have to resist ourselves from getting another serving of rice. The chili was also stellar; they carry two versions â a sweet variant and a spicy variant. While the spicy carries a lot of kick, my heart lies with the sweet one here; itâs distinctively sweet but not overly so, well rounded off without a lingering aftertaste. Wouldnât mind going for it again!
This is the default destination for many when the craving for Malay-style nasi lemak hits. Obviously the big draw here is the all-you-can-eat fragrant, rich rice. That, and the two kinds of freeflow sambal because the world made up of two kinds of people - those whose tastebuds adore the sweet and those who swear by the savoury. I am firmly in the latterâs camp (Nasi Lemak Kukusâ version is wonderfully fiery so proceed with caution).
Whatâs cool is this place operates on a self-service model for the add-onâs and dishes (at least thatâs what I experienced today). Apart from the basics like crunchy peanuts with ikan bilis, chicken wing, ikan kuning and cucumber, the other half of the displayed food is made up of hot dishes in pots. Here is where calorie counters explode. Lemak-till-can-die sayur lodeh, beef rendang, stewed beef lungs and other spicy chicken dishes wink at you cheekily, daring to be scooped up and ravished. I managed to resist them this afternoon but I doubt if thatâs going to be possible on my next visit.
With the outdoor seating & queue line before the restaurant even opens at 12 pm, there must be something about this eatery. Not to mention that the place was even recommended by Michelin guide 2016.đ¤

Got a chance to try them as they are nearby & ordered premium item & chef's recommendation "Mutton Rendang" $4, "Paru Paru" (beef lung) which we thought was vegetable đ, Sayur Lodeh (Malaysian vegetable curry), 1 fried fish (Kuning). Also had 2 types of Chilli on the plate & a bottle of water ($11 in total for this set).đą

The combination of items are very hot! âď¸âď¸There are a lot of Nasi Padang places so far we cover. This is one good option near Little India albeit some dishes might not fit healthy diet category. The basic set of Nasi Lemak $4 covers fried up items like chicken wing, 1 fish, 1 omelette, peanut. đ

This is THE place where you can get your nasi lemak customisable with side dishes like lodeh, rendang, curry and wide selection of ala-carte items like chicken seaweed, omelette, chicken wings, otah, hotdog, fish, etc ($0.70-$2).
Really love their chillax ambiance and concept. The rice was fragrance and they have two types of sambal that you can choose from. I opt for the normal one but it was too salty to my liking. Maybe it was just my unlucky day?
Definitely coming back here again if I'm around the area but if I'm really craving for a good plate of classic nasi lemak, I'll give this place a miss and drive myself to Changi instead.
But hey............ FREE FLOW of rice and sambal so I guess no complaints though đ
Price: $4 onwards
w/ chicken wing, peanuts & ikan bilis, cucumber, sambal, sayur lodeh, and mutton rendang
I love the fluffy coconut flavored rice, Rendang that screams tender loving care and the amazing sweet chili sauce. This is the only place that I'll cave for a second serving of rice! Come here if you want to be delighted!
Personally think the Rendang is something special. Served from continuously heated pot, the flavor was so good and the meat tender. The other highlight is the steamed rice, it was grainy and fragrant. Will be back for this again!
