Their Nasi Lemak shop has been face lifted and looks very clean & organized than before. We went there for a takeaway at 1 pm and their Kuning fish and Otah are all gone which means there is no set 4 (Otah set) only set 2 (fish set) is left.
We are offered to replace kuning fish in set 2 with bigger sized fish and pay 50 cents extra. We cannot say we love the big fish as they are quite bony but we do enjoy their sweet chili, fried egg. Anchovies / peanut could have been fresher but the coconut rice still make this set a pleasant quick lunch! 🥥
Ordered this takeaway at lunch (15 mins from finished order until tucking in). It is still piping hot but the char kway teow aroma had already escaped the takeaway box.🤭 Many lards and 2 juicy prawns are saving our day. Some place might fry until kway Teow has a charred rim but this one is not that charred. It is just right to increase our appetite!
The dish is decent though not as strong wok hei as some other places. We just wish the portion to match up the price tag. We request no hum and got what we wish. 🤘

The broth of Penang Assam laksa contains sardine, ginger flower, laksa leaves, Assam (tamarind), fermented shrimp paste, garlic galangal, turmeric, lemongrass but we still don’t feel that it’s in the same league as the original version we tried just yet 🤓
Tried their steamed otak and not bad at all. Comes in slice along with a little knife to share with friends. This is perhaps a healthy appetizer option. Else you can always go for rojak or fish ball. 😜
One of our favourite dishes at PappaRich Dolby Ghaut: Assam Laksa. Always generous portion with plenty of onion, cucumber, sliced fish etc. However, we feel the Assam broth standard has dropped. It tastes so similar to the tomato base in canned mackarel instead of tamarind. We feel a bit jialat after a while instead of refreshing feeling we should have. Note that there is no mint leaves, Calamansi and prawn paste to be seen.
This is the first time we note that we prefer no cockles in the dish. We get what we ask for!! Only prawns in this aromatic char Kway Teow dish. The wok hei & taste really satisfy us. One of must order dish along with Assam laksa
Tangy, sweet & sour Assam laksa is the dish that we order every time we visit PappaRich. Good quality ingredients with good ambience.

Got our seat at counter bar around 11 ish. The ambience is lively & most seats are occupied. We ordered 2 chicken Nasi Lemak $12.80 each and 2 hot tehs $2.50 and the items come pretty quick. We love coconut infused rice, fried chicken with lemongrass crackers bits, peanuts, Ikan billis, Sambal and fried egg. 🍳

They carefully use best quality ingredients for each part of the dish and the Nasi Lemak dish worths our bucks as we got 2 chicken chunks in the dish (although we prefer more rice 😁). Not to miss cendol $3.80 to refresh our palette at the end. Around $20 per pax (service charge & GST included)

👉 Proper Wok hei (charred aroma) with their seasoning blend that you shall not miss! They are very generous with cockles (>10+ we counted! 😜) plus a few good sized prawn.😍

👉 Chewy, thick rice noodle in a tangy tamarind & flaked makarel broth drizzled with Penang sweet prawn paste. Very good flavourful broth compared to other Malaysian food chain we tried so far. 💁♂️
