Mui Kee Congee 妹记生滚粥品 (Shaw Centre)

Behind every bowl of Mui Kee lies a heritage as rich as its flavour. Its humble origins date back to 1979 where founder Mak Mui opened Mui Kee in a small corner stall in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. Today, Mui Kee Congee is helmed by her grandson, Ah Tung. Using recipes and cooking techniques which have been passed down through three generations, every scoop of silky smooth congee is filled with old school ingenuity.

Mui Kee is a culinary gem that specializes in Cantonese porridge. While their porridge dishes are undoubtedly the stars of the show, their claypot creations are equally impressive.

The porridge itself is a work of art. It's smooth, creamy, and flavorful, with a delicate balance of savory and subtle sweetness. I particularly enjoyed the century egg porridge, which was incredibly comforting and satisfying. The century egg added a unique depth of flavor that complemented the porridge perfectly.

We did try the claypot frog leg and claypot beef brisket, both of which were absolutely delicious. The frog legs were cooked to perfection, with the meat tender and juicy. The sauce was a savory blend of spices that complemented the frog legs perfectly. The claypot beef brisket was also excellent, with the beef soft and tender. The sauce was rich and flavorful, with a hint of sweetness.

Very long never eat this. Still a notch above generic porridges. Fragrant congee, fresh fish, large crunchy meatballs I'm guessing have cartilage or tendon.

One of us decided to go for noodle instead of congee and it didn't disappoint! The noodle is springy & its portion is really generous and more than enough for a person. Sliced fish and Dace fish ball are also plenty in the bowl. 👌
.
Sides are soup and wanton 🥟 (super crispy with mayo dipping). If you request extra chilli, you will get sambal style and sliced chilli to pick from). sambal chilli is nice for noodle whereas sliced chilli is well matched with congee. Pay $1 extra for cold drink and well worth it for fighting heat wave! 🥵

Our second visit to Mui Kee Congee at Shaw centre. We gotta admit that we miss their congee when they first opened back then. The congee is still silky smooth although we can notice shrinkflation for each component. We will overlook that because we simply enjoy congee, youteow, century eggs to the max! 👌💯 The set comes with your hot drink choice (except soursop) and valid for weekday lunch (Mon-Fri) & weekday dinner (Mon-Thurs)

Finally get to try Mui Kee for weekend breakfast. Smooth congee that’s flavourful. Filled with QQ homemade pork meatballs, loving it! Crispy Dough Fritters not included so have to order separately ($2.50). Saw many families bringing grandparents and children there to enjoy the congee together, so heartwarming. Another lovely discovery, Mui Kee is under Les Amis Group, love love their restaurants
