Breakfast. The most important meal of the day.

Warm and moist homemade lemon poppyseed cake with whipped cream, New Zealand organic blueberries and broken Garrett's salted caramel popcorn.

The popcorn lends a savory touch whilst adding a nice textural crunch; blueberries for a pop of freshness, and whipped cream just tastes good.

Tried a new brand of organic pasta today; 100% Italian durum wholewheat semolina spaghetti, and I really like it! It cooks easily with a lovely al dente bite, without going soft even if you cook it a tad over—perfect for pasta lovers who like it al dente. Stirred in my favorite al granchio sauce by Da Paolo Gastronomia, made with cream, crab meat, plum tomatoes, grana padona cheese and a touch of vodka. No Monday blues for me! 😋

A simple homemade spaghetti bolognese in chunky tomato and herb sauce for lunch!

So I decided to make full use of the public holidays to attempt baking. Today's bake: Nutella stuffed soft peanut butter cookies. My first batch turned out a little more crisp then we preferred, but thankfully, the second batch was soft and chewy, with a perfect gooey hazelnut chocolate center! Peanut butter and chocolate has got to be the best combination. I also attempted a batch with Speculoos—what a delight! Now the whole kitchen smells of freshly baked cookies! 😋

Our home-cooked Chinese New Year dinner last night; roast honey glazed chicken (okay, that was by Cold Storage), brussel sprouts and crispy bacon in honey and sriracha, stir fry baby kai lan in garlic and oyster sauce, silky tofu with baby corn and mince on an egg bed, braised mushrooms with fish maw, and of course, a beautiful bottle of white in good company. Happy Chinese New Year!
