As with most stalls at Tampines Round Market, the food here is average. There're 2 places selling lor mee in this hawker centre (the other being Botak Lor Mee), and this has the heavier sauce, and less variety of ingredients. It comes with lots of battered fish (mostly batter), and half a braised egg. The lor is agreeably garlicky and vinegary, but otherwise unremarkable.

The presentation was on point here, with cascading folds of glossy, buttery hollandaise draped over bulbous poached eggs and crunchy looking croquettes sat on a bed of strikingly purple fennel cabbage slaw.

A shining example of style meeting substance, each component worked together as a harmonious whole. The miso-tinged, tobiko-spiked sauce lent salty richness to the perfectly cooked, still runny eggs, which themselves sauced the shatteringly crisp and meaty patties beneath them, whilst the slaw added crunchiness and freshness.

Thereā€™s no lack of new openings in Tampines of late. One of the latest and most anticipated entrants is Lolaā€™s, which finally introduces a cafe of another caliber to bustling Tampines Central. Located at the intersection of Tampines Mall and Century Square, this branch is sunlight-filled from the large glass windows and decked in relaxing white, pastel and wooden tones.

While the coffee is surprisingly excellent, the food itself is some of the time, generic cafe fare, such as Lolaā€™s version of the big breakfast.
The chicken kielbasa whilst perfunctory, doesnā€™t taste like actual kielbasa, whilst the scrambled eggs were well-cooked albeit unseasoned with nary a salt shaker in sight. What I did appreciate though were the thick cut bacon and crisp outside juicy inside mushroom fritters. This is by no means bad, just average.

I patronise this newly opened branch of @aburien.sg at Tampines One primarily for their insanely value for money 1-for-1 highballs, but the foodā€™s decent as well.

If you came with an appetite, splurge a little on this beef rice bowl with meaty slices of Australian roast wagyu topped with creamy aburi mentaiko cheese sauce, crunchy shimeiji mushrooms and a saucy onsen egg. Itā€™s extremely hearty and will leave you quite full.

Indelibly smoky and umami, the hokkien mee at Heng Heng Delights boasts the right amount of sauciness without being too wet. It comes with 2 big, firm prawns, slippery sotong and most importantly, lots of nuggets of crispy lard. It comes with a sour and spicy sambal that compliments the noodles quite well. This hidden gem of a stall also sells carrot cake and char kway teow, but unfortunately the coffeeshop itā€™s in is closed for renovation till 1st Sep.

Essentially a direct port of King Of Fried Rice's existing flavours such as tom yam and X.O., but with noodles, this is good if you're hankering after the familiar flavours of King Of Fried Rice with a different carb.

The noodles are just south of al dente, and coated in a nondescript if spicy X.O. sauce, but thankfully streaked through with a good amount of fluffy egg and onion. It's piled high with a succulent, very tasty chicken cutlet and fried egg, which if I'm to be honest, I enjoyed more than the noodles.

Originally from Golden Mile, Mum Beer Thai House is now...housed in an obscure coffeeshop just next to Tampines Round Market. According to some Google Map reviews, this place serves the most authentic Thai food in Tampines. At the very least, it's as spicy as anything you'd get in Bangkok. My basil pork rice was studded with loads of chilli padi, which also made me break out into a coughing fit on the first bite. Besides that, the portion was generous and very well-seasoned, with the delightfully forward aroma of holy basil. The rice itself was however a little clumpier and softer than I normally prefer.

It's been a few years since I've had Roast Paradise, and I'm happy to report it's still as good as ever, even at their new branches. Give the well seasoned mee pok a good toss together with the minced pork, spring onion and smokey chilli paste before combining it with a mouthful of fatty, charred Brazilian pork belly. I guarantee itā€™ll make your day.

A massive portion of piping hot and extra crispy chicken cutlet crowns Dan Lao's signature scrambled eggs over rice. Don't forget to spoon a heapful of their addictive dry chilli oil over your rice, it really adds to the dish. In this case though, there can be too much of a good thing. It's always undoubtedly highly satisfying whilst in the midst of the meal, but by the end of it I was feeling slightly sick from the overwhelming richness of the food sitting heavy in my belly.

Mediocre by any standards, the chilli sauce is underwhelming, the fishballs and fishcake bland and the stinginess of ingredients as well as overuse of fried shallots is just further salt in the wound. Get your fishball noodle fix elsewhere.

Eggs on rice is an Asian comfort food staple I never tire of, and Dan Lao does a scrumptious version, where rice seasoned with soy sauce is blanketed in silky, golden scrambled eggs and plush chunks of salty luncheon meat. The portions are filling, and will definitely leave you in a food coma, so avoid having it for lunch.

The most important component here is the fluffy rice which is suffused with coconut-y flavour, and this went magnificently well with the sweet and spicy sambal. I also appreciated the freshly fried ikan bilis. The chicken wing was nice enough, but nothing out of the ordinary.
