Allures of Ang Mo Kio & Bishan
Finally the newly-launched 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹 ($9.90) was another winner. There’s a choice of 4 burgers and I picked the Double-Up Smashed Burger. The two succulent beef patties and gooey cheese tasted divine.
I’m wary of ordering lamb at hawker stalls as most do not have the expertise to execute it well. But the 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯 𝗟𝗼𝗶𝗻 ($14.50) was immaculately grilled, exhibiting tenderness while being devoid of any gamey smell.
Equally enchanting was the 𝗔𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗢𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 ($14.50), as the moist, flakey salmon with crispy skin was superlative. The al dente pasta was also praiseworthy.
With 13 outlets across Singapore, it’s no wonder Western food hawker stall Chops & Sear are doing so well, as the food is excellent and the prices affordable.
Tender and juicy, the 𝗔𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗢𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗽 ($9.50) was delicious.
Savoury and umami, the 𝗫𝗢 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗽 ($8.50) was a revelation. The tender pork chop could’ve been more crispy, but was still good.
The sambal deserves special mention. Savoury, spicy and containing crispy dried shrimps, it elevated the fried rice to another level. A very good alternative to DTF fried rice!
I have been wanting to try Mr Egg Fried Rice for the longest time and I finally made the trip. Offering four variations of egg fried rice with a choice of five toppings, it promises a great degree of customisation.
We were delighted with the sour, spicy profile of the 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗬𝘂𝗺 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻𝘀 ($7.90). The crunchy prawns were very tasty too.
This 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗸 ($16.90) is a show stopper. Fork-tender and doused with a delectable black pepper sauce, it was supremely scrumptious. It also came with generous servings of mashed potatoes, waffle fries and coleslaw, sides with enough differentiation in textures and tastes so you never get bored eating this sumptuous dish. Recommended!
Don’t leave without ordering some of the insanely irresistible drinks on the menu. The refreshing 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲 and decadent 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗲𝘀 & 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲 were both stellar.
We were equally enamoured with the fluffy 𝗢𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗵 𝗢𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗲, which tasted heavenly when paired with ice-cream.
For the desserts, we were enchanted by the rich 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗲.
I’ve always been a dessert waffle kind of person, but it was love a first sight when I saw the 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 & 𝗪𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗲. Four sizeable chunks of chicken, fabulously fried, sat atop a gigantic waffle. Douse the whole dish in maple syrup and it’s good to go. Simultaneously crispy, juicy, fluffy, sweet and savoury, it was absolutely divine!
The 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝘁 featured a medley of calamari rings, chicken mid wings and sweet potato fries paired with tartar sauce. Every item was excellent and if I were to choose a favourite, it would have to be the calamari for its textural contrast.
