Revisited this Wanton Mee stall again (after 8 years!); they only open late at night (10.30pm - 3am) and the waiting time is always really long! Love the QQ texture of the noodles, and the fragrant sauce - it has that old school taste! The wanton mee also comes with char siew, mushrooms, shredded chicken and soup with wantons inside. It is a good plate of wanton mee and I understand why they have their fans, but I personally find that it is not worth the long waiting time. TBH, I can find other wanton mee of similar standards with shorter waiting times elsewhere.
There’s just something about this stall’s wanton mee (located at Hougang 401 KPT coffeeshop) that keeps me coming back for more! The combination of the springy noodles mixed with the sauce mix brings out a nostalgic old school taste that is just so appealing! They are open till late too, which makes it a good supper option!
Fancy some Lok Lok + Soju in the comfort of your home during this HA period? Lok不Lok Bistro is here to satisfy that craving with their delivery service! I’d recommend going for their Lok Lok combos, which all come with a FREE bottle of soju! Featured here is Combo B that comes with 55 sticks of Lok Lok, including my faves - Zai Er, Bakkwa, Broccoli & Fishroe Dumpling. I like that they offer lots of varieties (more than 30!) of Lok Lok to choose from, and they remained tasty despite being delivered! Additionally, I’m also a huge fan of their homemade sauces (MAMA Sibei 辣, MAMA Satay Sauce, VIET Garlic Sweet Sauce & DIDI 酸酸甜甜辣辣), which all paired really well with the Lok Lok! Besides Lok Lok, they also offer fries and ramen as well.
Islandwide delivery with min. order of $35 and $10 flat delivery fee. Free delivery for orders $85 and above. Self-collection is available too. Check out their social media pages on IG / FB (@lokbulokbistro) for more info.
Another recommended dish is the Fish and Chips with Alscampi Sauce. The fish is crispy on the outside while soft and tender inside. The portion of the fish is also very sizable, and you also get to choose 2 side dishes. The creamy sauce also comes with mussel and prawns! If you’re looking for something real filing and value for money, this is a great choice!
49 Seats has been in the local F&B scene since 2012, serving fusion style cuisines with a local twist at affordable prices.
Their signature dish (and also my personal favourite) is the Tom Yum Seafood Pasta, which has a good balance of spicy and savoury. For spicy food lovers, you can even challenge yourself by requesting for level 49 spiciness, which i personally have not tried.
Hong Chang is an unassuming eating house located along Braddell Road that serves very delectable Kung Pao Claypot Frog Legs. The frog legs were succulent & tender, while the fragrance of the sauce went really well with the smooth texture of the porridge.
As we’re huge fan of the Shibuya Toast from After You in Thailand, we’ve been craving something similar. So we decided to order this at our visit here! Overall this Strawberry Banana Toast is decent enough, although it still pales in comparison to After You’s (tbh, it’s tough competition anyway!). We felt that the toast, while crisp, lacked that butteriness on the inside. We did like that the honey and fruits helped to add some sweetness. That said, the cafe itself is really aesthetic, and is a pretty nice place to chill with your +1!
This wanton mee joint is opened by former staff of Eng’s (the famous one in Tanjong Katong) which explains why the style & taste of the wanton mee here is so similar. The noodles are springy, and the fiery chilli makes it even more special. Do order their fried wantons too, very crispy & yummy too!
This is one of the more popular stalls at Newton Food Centre and the carrot cake here sure did not disappoint.
The carrot cake was fried to the point of crispy yummy, making each bite a delight. An overall dish i would definitely order again.
When you’re talking about chinese nasi lemak in Singapore, there are not many places that do it better than @ponggolnasilemak.
Yes, the pricing for their food items is certainly on the higher side, but so is the quality compared to other places (the long snaking queues are a testament to that).
The base of the dish is of course the fragrant rice ($1), and the items i usually go for are as pictured; fried chicken wings ($1.70), otah ($1.50) & long beans ($1). The fried chicken wings in particular are really good; so crispy and juicy.
This is one of my two favourite spots for hainanese curry rice (the other is at Beo Crescent) in Singapore. My usual orders here are the lor bak (braised pork), cabbage, pork cutlet and slathered with delectable savoury curry gravy. Shiok!
Tried the prawn mee from this popular stall in Toa Payoh area recently, and it was pretty good! You get a pretty substantial portion for $5, and the noodles tasted really good after mixing it up with the savoury concocted sauce! Prawns were fresh too and the soup by the side was rich and flavourful! Will definitely be back again if i’m in the area and need a good prawn mee fix for dinner / supper!
