Their Johor bi tai mak that comes only in the soup version was already sold out before 10am on a weekday hence I settled for mushroom minced pork fishball and pork leg noodles.

Each bowl of noodles is tossed in black vinegar chilli mixture, topped with flavourful well-seasoned minced meat with mushroom and pork lard. The minced meat and mushroom were well braised till soft and fragrant, making every mouthful slurp-worthy.

Fusion BCM with wallet-friendly prices. The seafood ikura pork noodles are cooked till al-dente, tossed in homemade sauce and served with prawn paste, scallop, herh keow, sliced pork, minced pork and ikura. The sliced pork is tender and I enjoyed the bursting flavours of ikura with noodles. The highlight has got to be their herh know that comes packed with flavours 》$6

Salt-baked chicken thigh sausage rice served in a wrapper is moist and well-marinated with herbs and sea salt. It was baked till golden brown and fork tender with bursting savoury sweet and salty flavours. The chilli sauce by the side makes a good dip.

Their signature noodle consists of two bite-sized abalone, scallop, fried fishball, pork slices, minced pork, half tamago egg and pork lard. The noodles were cooked to a springy and firm texture with mild spiciness.

Al-dente and springy noodles tossed in braised mushroom sauce, topped with generous servings of sliced mushrooms.

Both the dry BCM / 小碗面 includes ingredients such as fishcake, liver slices, minced pork and pork slices while the soup version came with a drop of egg too. I preferred the soup version for its very satisfying thick and full-flavoured soup filled with porky goodness with a hint of sweetness.

Springy noodles coated in savoury black sauce, sambal chilli and shallot oil, topped with huge pieces of lard and fried shallots then served alongside soup with fishcake, seaweed, tau pok and homemade fish balls.

Noodles are cooked to the right texture and it does not clump after leaving it there for a period of time. The guys here handmade their fishball daily from scratch, scraping the flesh off yellowtail fish and forming them into a paste. The fishball and fishcake were fresh, soft and bouncy that I can’t stop dipping them into their belacan.

It is advisable to visit early to avoid disappointment as they are usually sold out before their stipulated closing hour due to their limited handmade fishball. The queue was long at 8:30 AM on a weekend morning but it’s moving at a steady pace and definitely worth the wait for such a comforting and satisfying breakfast.

Here is a hawker take on Japanese fusion ramen and BCM. My order of Japanese fusion mee pok in shoyu comes with noodles, pork ball, pork slices, minced pork, abalone slices and cha shu then topped with loads of crispy pork lard.

The cha shu was tender and thickly sliced with a good ratio of fat to meat. The noodles are cooked to a springy texture with a generous amount of ingredients in flavourful shoe and garlic sauce packed with umami goodness. Overall a wholesome and satisfying meal for my hungry belly 》$8/large

Mee sua tossed in a mixture of black vinegar and chilli accompanied with minced and sliced pork, braised mushroom, meatball then topped with crispy ikan bills and pork lard.

The mee sua is done with a good bite that is neither sticky nor soggy which absorbs the sauce well. I like how generous they are with the minced meat and the braised mushroom was super soft and juicy. I felt the taste of vinegar was a little strong even after requesting less vinegar but the chilli did help to make it better 》$4.50

There's always a queue at Joo Chiat Chiap Kee which serves the freshest yellowtail fishball handmade in-house daily. The fishball comes in irregular shape, slightly smaller in size with a good bouncy, chewy and springy bite.

Each standard small bowl of noodles comes with 4 fishballs, 2 meatballs and 1 Teochew fish dumpling (herh keow) while the bigger bowl comes with 3 additional fishballs. The noodles are cooked al-dente, tossed in their popular special sambal chilli sauce and topped with crispy pork lard and spring onion 》$3 (small) / $4 (medium)

They are also selling ala-carte fishball/meatball for $2 (10pcs) and fish dumplings for $4 (20pcs). Be sure not to head over too late as I overheard the lady from the stall going down the queue behind us informing customers that their orders would be replaced with more meatballs as their popular fishballs are running out.

Two young entrepreneurs decided to set up a stall selling Modern BCM with seafood such as clams, scallop and mock abalone. I went straight with their signature minced pork noodles that came with a bowl of BCM topped with clams, scallops, prawn paste balls, mock abalone, fish dumplings, fish balls and crispy fish sticks. The noodles are well done with good texture and firm bite. Although the seafood are frozen, it was still plump and sweet. The prawn paste balls were crunchy and tender. Do not miss out on those crispy fish sticks made with deep-fried fish paste wrapped in beancurd skin. It is highly addictive and goes very well with the noodles 》$6

I was craving a hearty breakfast in the morning before heading to work so I went straight with the large bowl that comes generously with prawns, pork slices, liver, fishball, fish cake, fish dumpling and lots of minced pork.

The soup was robust, full of rich, sweet and savoury flavours. The noodles were prepared al-dente with a good bite. It was well tossed with a good mix of their signature chilli, vinegar and ketchup together with pork lard and stewed mushroom.
