Dabao-ed some Eng’s wanton mee for lunch. I think the secret behind why their food is so good is the amount of lard in it. Not complaining though, it was still very good. Also allowed myself to indulge in those uber crispy lard bits — the meal is incomplete without it.

We don’t head to the North often but when there, we thought it would be a good idea to get the legendary white bee Hoon from White Restaurant. It definitely lived up to the hype and was packed with plenty of ingredients! Also love how strong the wok hei was as well as how rich the noodle gravy was. We would queue for this!

Fun stuff, they have various sets to suit your h group size. Our was the Huat Party Set ($125) good for 8 pax but tbh can feed more than that LOL

Old Shifu Charcoal Porridge opened a few months ago and it’s by the former chef of famous Ah Chiang Porridge that’s located a few streets away. I had high hopes for this place since I’m a fan of Ah Chiang but was left feeling a little disappointed. For one, the porridge here was on the blander side and I had to add quite a copious amount of soya sauce to make up for it. I guess the good thing is that it probably means they don’t add MSG. I did love their ginger chicken and Thai-style tofu. If only their porridge was seasoned better!

This prawn mee place have aircon 😬 but that aside, the food here is pretty good. Ordered the signature prawn mee (soup) + regular pork and prawn mee (dry) and both were good! The broth is damn thick and gao, super sedap. Prawns were also fresh. And the ribs homaigosh so TENDER. Also got their ngoh Hiang which was 👌🏻👌🏻

Chicken rice here was subpar. Not surprising though, since it’s become a commercialised chain. Food is also on the pricier end, don’t think I’ll be back.

I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this place because I thought it would be overhyped but it exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favourite chicken rice spots. Chicken was extremely tender, plump and juicy and had a silky smooth texture. The light soya sauce it was doused in gave the dish a slight savoury sweetness. Rice was also fragrant and grains were well separated. It’s a little on the pricier side but I think it’s worth it leh, I would go back.

One of my top few Nasi lemak spots in Singapore. Sadly, they’re only open on weekdays during lunch and I don’t work nearby😭 their Har cheong gai option is fantastic. The chicken comes out perfectly fried every single time and still remains juicy despite the outside being so crisp. Love the blue pea rice which isn’t very greasy and is very light and fluffy. Also tried the unagi rice which is good too! Unagi was damn tender and fresh. $10 for unagi is also damn cheap, esp for this quality.

Was one of the only few places on Burpple Beyond that were open on New Years. Soup broth was like a bland version of HDL broth. Noodles were decent. However, I feel like the price point was too steep for what you get. Probably won’t be back.

Rarely get a chance to eat kampong chicken but when I do, I’m hardly ever disappointed. The ones here are chunky and outrageously tender and juicy. Sauce is great, chilli is great. Rice is fluffy. Everything is great.

Have eaten here a few times already, chicken not consistently nice and can be dry at times. Rather steep price for chicken rice tbh. But okay lah it’s still decent, will still eat here if I’m in the area. And of course lah it’s situated in town, still considered one of the more affordable eats here.

One of our favourite wanton mee spots in Singapore. If you want a chilli that literally punches you in the face then come here; I always think that just a small drop of their chilli will be okay but I always prove myself wrong because one drop of chilli here is as spicy as a whole bottle of chilli you can find in NTUC ok!! But it goes great with the wanton mee, 10/10 recommend.
