hawker (fish soup) 🐟

Was going to have regular fish soup until I noticed that they had pao fan ($5) available! This comes with a sizeable portion of sliced & fried fish. Soup gets a little heavy towards the end but is otherwise very enjoyable with the mix of savoury and sweet flavours you’d expect from prawn soup. Also liked the tangy chilli!

Ambience here is certainly nicer than at the nearby hawker centre, but that premium costs a pretty penny. Opted for the fish soup ($6), which was one of their more affordable items! The soup is light with hints of garlic. Could do with more ingredients as the portion of noodles was disproportionately large. I found the Lao Jiang soup most flavourful!

The sliced fish soup ($5) here is a little pricey but well worth it! They are very generous with their fish and vegetables, and the soup is extremely flavourful. Love that their meesua ($0.50) has a great bite and soaks up the soup nicely!

Felt my heart drop a little when I received my bowl of sliced fish soup ($4) - sure, it was a large bowl, but it looked awfully empty. The sparse portion of fish & vegetables was rather disappointing! I did like the clear, clean soup though. And their chilli is a big draw - fiery with a strong roasted garlic flavour!

The fish soup ($5) is extremely fragrant, with a base made from flat fish and augmented with garlic & shallots. There is a tinge of bitterness from the bitter gourd! The stall is very generous with its fish and vegetables.

A sizeable bowl of tasty sliced fish soup ($5 + $0.50 for rice)! Was surprised by the sweetness of the soup as it didn’t seem to have the usual garlic or dried cuttlefish. It was a generous serving of vegetables and fish!

This store is famed for its fried fish, but I actually enjoy the sliced fish soup ($4.50) more! It’s not as smooth as batang, but it has a good bite and the portion is generous. Also comes with lots of green vegetables, tomatoes and tofu; super value for money 🌟

Am a super loyal fan who’s been eating this for the past 12+ years!! The price inches up all the time ($5 for soup + $0.30 for rice) but its well justified for the quantity and quality - I have pieces of fish left even after finishing my rice, and the batang is always smooth and fresh. The soup is cooked with dried cuttlefish, and you might get tomato slices if you’re lucky. This stall will always be my go-to for fish soup - I’d be hard pressed to find a comparable alternative 👍🏼🌟 #oldisgold
