All our favourites from @tsuiwahsingapore.
Clockwise from the middle:
- HK-style Curry Chicken with Rice
- Deep Fried Wantons
- Luncheon Meat & Scrambled Egg Sandwiches (excellent with their chilli oil)
- Steamed Broccoli
- Braised Abalone Sauce Rice with Chicken & Kale
- Mala Sliced Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles 💯
- Kagoshima-style Braised Pork Cartilage in Fish Soup with Rice Noodles 💯
Drinks here are super authentic tasting, I’ll always have the Milk Tea, which really transports me back to the time when I worked in Hongkong.
They also have a Chef’s Recommendation Set Menu which feeds 4 persons quite substantially for $60.

My first ever Pao Fan experience, I gave to @shaobbq, and boy was I in for a treat!
We had the large sized Mixed Seafood Pao Fan which they’ve considerately packed in two separate containers: one, a milky seafood broth which I couldn’t get enough of, and two: crispy fried rice, fluffy white rice with an array of seafood (lala, prawns, squid and plump oysters).
This meal ticked all the right boxes for me: texturally crunchy, full of flavour, temperature; still piping hot when we ate and just wholesomely full on comfort.

Crisp edges, chewy pancake generously studded with seafood.
Best Seafood PaJeon in Singapore, imo.

Sounds like an odd pairing, but this combination works crazy well together. Helps that the pumpkin sticks were battered and fried till crisp yet still retains its natural sweetness and soft mushy interior before its coated in generous amounts of curry leaves and salted egg paste. I could’ve easily finished the entire serving on my own.

My other must-order dish at Ding Tai Fung apart from their Xiao Long Baos (little soup dumplings).
This thickened soup with generous amounts of shredded pork, bamboo shoots, soft tofu and black fungus mushrooms, seasoned with black cracked pepper and plenty of spring onions. The Hot & Sour part can be adjusted to your preference with the chilli oil and black vinegar provided (usually available tableside but now served upon request due to the Pandemic).
Comfort food at its best!

The only place, as far as I know, that serves Wok-Hei flavoured Congee. Originating from Hongkong, this renowned chain expertly imparts the charred flavour whilst wok frying large chunks of fish into their congee broth, such a genius idea, I wonder why no one else does it. The YouTiao (dough fritters) are also a must-order item, takes a short while to get to your table, but comes out crisp and fresh fried every single time.
All their fish congees may contain bones, so please take extra caution if you’re bringing your children or older folks.
For a quick dining concept within a small space, their service was exemplary. Cheers to that @lesamisgroupsg!

Another go-to favourite that’s great for family/friends/colleague groups. Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuan. They’ve been around for awhile now even opened a few branches, each claiming they’re the ‘original’, but this till today still remains the best tasting one.
I’m particularly careful when having Yong Tau Foo as most of YTF ingredients contain fish paste or bean by products which tend to turn sour if left out for too long. I’ve never had to worry about that here; they refresh their items regularly and everything looks fresh.
If you ordered too much (like we did), they’ll usually separate the crispy items from the rest and fill that plate with less meat gravy so it doesn’t turn soggy too quickly.
Favourites are definitely the crispy 斋鹅 and jumbo Cheese Sausage.

Can always rely on Chen’s for a heart warming bowl of Mapo Tofu.
Sze Chuan peppers and spices are well balanced, packs a small punch of heat and as you eat your way through the gravy-laden rice bowl, you’ll get the occasional savoury punch from their fermented black beans.
Haven’t found that many Mapo Tofu spots in town, but this is definitely one of my favourites!
