If the sound of squid ink rice turns you off, think again! When I first read the description of 黑 Rice ($24), I did not expect it to mean the superior WOK HEY taste that we’re all familiar with.
This dish combines my favourite elements of the Western, Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Think perfectly medium-cooked steak, garlicky and wok hey flavoured fried rice, topped with mayonnaise, Nori and Tobiko for that extra sweetness and crunch.
Will definitely be back again for this!
Smoked Salmon Lemon Carbonara ($18) was overly sour and lacked taste — think pasta cream cooked without seasoning except for excessive lemon juice added. The dish would have tasted better with a dash of pepper/ herbs.
N.Z. Striploin Roast Beef Sandwich ($17) had beef that was dry and tough. Topped with a sunny side up egg that was barely runny. There was no saving grace for this even with the sides (salad + baked potatoes), and we had to turn to our next best alternative, chilli sauce.
Spiced Chai Latte ($6) was the highlight of our meal! It was smooth, creamy and had just the right amount of caffeine which blended well with chai. If I were craving for a cup of good coffee, I will not hesitate to go for this. It’s just that good!

I love my food. I’m not afraid to speak the truth and also to give recognition where it’s due!
