Who would have thought that a fast food chain can actually make such decent butter chicken plate?

An unexpected pairing of 2-piece fried chicken with a creamy rich gravy that’s full of masala spices and tanginess, along with some curry leaves. Served with rice, corn, batter crisps and a piece of papadum that has a harder texture than the usual ones outside.

The banana pie is now back on the menu together with the Nasi Lemak burger and Chendol ice cream. It’s one of the better tasting pies in the recent launches, pretty much wouldn’t go wrong. Huge banana chunks wrapped within a well baked crust, tasted just like a banana pizza!

Did I just eat a pie with a pink dolphin drink filling? Good peach flavors are hard to come by. While it’s innovative to come up with a peach pie, it turned out to be too artificially flavoured that it’s probably hard to be satisfied if you are looking for a natural peach flavour. The standard of the pie fluctuates. The first I had had fruit bits tasted much like Nata de coco, sinked in when bitten, possibly unriped. While the second one I had on the same night had more crunchy peach bits.

McDonalds had its new local flavours inspired items launched, including this pandan ice cream cone. Built up expectations after smelling the delightful pandan aroma from the ice cream, but well the vanilla base of the ice cream was too domineering, not much of pandan could be tasted. I would have preferred if it both smelled and tasted like pandan, with a hint of coconut flavour. It’s still worth trying, but not a wow.

Just a record for what the fast food chains have launched for National Day this year.

For the price of merely a dollar, I would think that Burger King has done a wonderful job in creating this Teh Tarik Pie. It’s gao (rich), and does have the rich milky tea taste. Expectedly it was rather sweet, and was a little jelak at the end. Some said “I don’t taste the froth of Teh Tarik”, but still, I was impressed.

Interesting new creation by McDonald's for the World Cup fever. It's really like McNuggets rolled into balls with a bread-crumbed coating and deep fried. Wouldn't say the tangy tomato pizza sauce inside was oozy, because it was quite little and slightly hollow. In fact, the sauce tasted more like tomato pasta sauce with herbs. Perhaps the coating should have been done directly on the chicken meat itself, to prevent the chicken meatball from dropping out of it so easily in this case.

One of the few better creations by KFC recently after the Zinger Mozzarella Burger that had an entire cheese patty. Kinda like that too, especially when you break the cheese patty and pulling it was insane.

I don't usually eat Zinger because I used to hear how spicy it can be. But decided to give it a try and realised maybe it's not that spicy after all. This cheesy zinger stacker could really feed 2 people. To be honest, it was hard to even take an entire bite off the gigantic burger. But it was still good eating it in halves. The 2 crispy zinger fillets were XXL-sized, and had a reasonable tenderness. Cheese was the highlight where there were 2 cheese slices and overflowing nacho cheese sauce. Also there was mayonnaise and lots of shredded lettuce at the bottom. Not bad for a fast food burger.

Sorry this photo may not look that appetizing but look at that amount of chili sauce! I really want to emphasize on how spicy bursting Jollibee's chicken is, as in spices spicy, not really of heat spicy. Other than the chili sauce that's hidden beneath the chicken skin, the juicy chicken meat that could easily be torn off into strips was also wholly marinated with spices. The batter was thin and crispy. Of course, you could choose the non-spicy version too. There's also a brown savory sauce that tasted like mushroom sauce to dip the chicken meat in, probably the same in the mashed potato. Enjoyed the mashed potato too which is made using yellow potatoes.

Each set comes with a drink and choices of 2 side dishes which include corn, rice, mashed potato or french fries. The menu at Jollibee is much more different than the other fast food chains as they also serve rice, pasta, hotdogs, burgers and mee siam! Probably that's why they can keep the queue never ending.

Very seldom I would have the new launched items by McDonald's a second time, but the Thai Milk Tea cone is really a hit. Surprisingly it's not as sweet as I expected like the actual Thai Milk Tea, which is really to my liking. In fact, it had an aromatic tea and floral flavour as though there's presence of the tea leaves. Also, there was a slight minty backnote after all the aromatic flavour fades.

Personally I don't fancy having chicken and waffles as I can't really appreciate savoury waffles. But this combination by Popeyes was surprisingly not bad.

Eating it as a whole was kinda problematic for me because it was huge. And so I had the chicken with one waffle. The general impression I had was a complex flavour, sort of messy, because there was sweetness and spiciness from the spicy maple syrup, there was creamy cheesy flavour from the cheddar cheese, savoriness from the chicken meat itself. Seemed like they were really ambitious in trying to create something new by lumping all the flavours together. I was confused as to what really to taste, but if I were to take it layer by layer, it's pretty decent. The meat was tender and juicy, and look at the cheese and spicy maple, how generous. The waffles were soft but not buttery fragrant enough.

A chicken & waffles set meal includes a drink and a Cajun mashed potato that was slightly spicy. There were minced meat in the mashed potato too! The chicken & waffle is available till 28 April only.
