Japanese 🇯🇵
Rice bowls as an addition to their initial tendon-only menu. The cubes of salmon, tuna, swordfish with salmon ikura and tamagoyaki were fresh, thought portion could be more generous at $18.80. No marinate like the usual chirashi bowls that we are used to, but I liked the pairing with the roasted seaweed. Overall decent, but there are definitely much better ones around at this price point. Will probably just stick to their tendon.
Apart from the ever-popular Bara Chirashi Don, Rakki Bowl also offers a Salmon Don and Spicy Salmon Don for those who prefers having only raw salmon. While the Spicy Salmon Don does not feature any marinated fish, the Spicy Salmon Don is still pretty refreshing with the chunky cubes of raw salmon that provided a bite; the portion being rather generous despite us ordering the small size with enough cubes of fish to go around the bed of cold, slightly sweetened Japanese rice beneath. Chili padi had been added over the cubes of salmon for that promised spiciness — a bite into one instantly releases a lethal spiciness that goes round the tongue and lips that is pretty unforgiving yet shiok. Again, pretty value-for-money considering its quality and price point.
Pumpkin Chawanmushi? Eggplant with Yuzu Miso? Dragonfly Maki Roll? Definitely some of my recommended items here and not the things you'll see on a typical Japanese restaurant menu. Went to Shin Minori @ Katong Square to enjoy their 1-for-1 promotion for ala-carte lunch buffet and the overall impression was quite alright, though my bf and I had to share a 4-seater with another couple because we didn't make a reservation.
Loved their sashimi which were fresh and thick, their pumpkin which was sweet, and Dragonfly Maki Roll which was filled with crispy soft shell crab, topped with eel and avocado and drizzled with a sweet sauce. Their Gyuniku Shogayaki (beef with special sauce) is worth a mention is well, but it definitely needs some rice to cut the saltiness. The yakimono (grilled items) weren't impressive, their green tea is highly diluted, and don't waste your calories on their scallop bacon pizza. It also seemed like the servicecrew are unable keep up with the orders, resulting in a very slow service after 12.30pm.
It was good with 1-for-1 promotion, but it'll definitely be below expectations of we were to pay the full price.
The 12th concept by chef Keisuke Takeda specialises in hamburg steak. In fact, there are only two items on the menu — the Keisuke Prime Beef Hamburg Set ($18.80) and the Triple Cheese Prime Beef Hamburg Set ($20.80). Both are made using minced prime US beef shoulder, and are seriously juicy and tender. Spend the extra $2 for the incredibly molten centre of cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan. While prices aren't likely to give hawkers a run for their money, you get a lot more than what you'll pay for here. These guys are seriously generous with the complimentary side dishes. They have about 20 items on rotation, including salads, cold pastas and eggs done any way you like from the live egg station! Burp. Pro tip: Burppler Colin Tan suggests visiting early close to opening times (11:30am and 5:30pm) to avoid the crowds.
Avg Price: $20 per person
