I know not what kind of sauce itโs been slathered in, but this sotong is amazing!! Coming in huge pieces, each ringlet is springy, soft and SO FRESH! Almost as if we fished it out the sea from right beside our table. I especially liked how easy it was to eat each piece, without the need for incessant chewing ๐
An interesting take on a traditional dish: though comprising the same ingredients of egg and tofu, the overall taste and feel is almost entirely different from what Iโm used to. The deep fried sheets of egg behave almost like a sponge, absorbing and being completely saturated with a cloyingly sweet type of gravy that borders on being overwhelming... as such, I much prefer the dryer and more savoury version! The thick peanut sauce managed to mask the sweet taste at least. On a side note, crackers were stale and not crisp ๐
Feast your eyes on these babies and take a moment to appreciate that titillating sheen of Indochiliโs secret sweet & savoury sauce. Also the charred, blackened edges, sporadically present all over each skewer which speaks volumes about the excellence of their cooking method. Each skewer is so well done, I canโt even taste the characteristic gamey taste (common in traditional Singaporean beef satay) above everything else. Couldโve been a tad less tough, but Iโm more than satisfied with this!
Though prices run a little steep, this place serves aunthentic Indonesian food that leaves one craving for more! Chicken satay was incredibly aromatic, whetting our appetites with merely the scent. Each skewer is a medley of flavors from inside to out; from the juicy chicken flesh, then its charred and sweetly glazed exterior, to the final flourish of thick, crunchy peanut sauce ๐ The other snack-like appetizers (both in terms of taste and portion) were alright, but the peanut dish was a little too clumpy and sugary for my liking!
You definitely have to get the shrimp paste chili sauce too, itโs totally worth the $1 top-up! The loaded โhe biโ taste just canโt help but add dimension to every single dish!!
When my friend raved to me about this joint, I was skeptical. How authentic can fast food from the basement of a heartland mall be? The answer: QUITE authentic - the first sight that greets you is a giant kebab skewer! I decided on the chicken since the beef chili con carne didnโt look as tantalizing.
While the various constituents (I.e.: veggies, tortilla wrap) arenโt the best out there, the chicken more than makes up for it. Glistening with oil and interspersed with charred corners, the chicken is savory and sinfully indulgent! Also, it went very well with the sweet chili sauce. Certainly a good way to start the day!
Allegedly a Mexican eatery, yet somehow the faintest whiff of any dish screams โINDIAN CUISINEโ!! All the dishes we got (tacos, burritos, fajitas) were heavily seasoned with Indian spices, the strongest being cumin. Though I would have preferred my beef fajitas a little more tender, the meal was overall incredibly filling. When coupled with the impeccable service, I must say that this cosy eatery would make a good haunt if you work nearby! :)
I apprehensively bit into a forkful of Gemmillโs signature dish, expecting the all-too-familiar strong gamy flavor of lamb...and was pleasantly surprised. Contrary to expectations, the dish wasnโt odorous at all and the characteristic meaty flavor had just the right kick, furthermore leaving a subtle taste that radiated slowly through our mouths. All in all, it was an interesting take on lasagne!
My only gripe is that the dish was pretty shallow and hence portion felt small. We sadly polished it off in minutes!
Crispy, warm and most importantly, freshly baked focaccia bread! Came with a side of ricotta dip, which was lightly seasoned, infused with lemon zest and bathed in juice and oil. A good start to the meal!
Upon being seated, this was placed on our table with a flourish: a generous basket of toasty European bread rolls, complete with a crisp, lightly floured crust and soft stretchy insides. Went perfectly with the olive oil & balsamic vinegar dip, and served as a satisfactory appetizer! ๐
From the many sumptuous dishes we tried here, this Thai eatery is certainly befitting of itโs meaningful name. Love their alternative to the traditional pineapple fried rice; watermelon DOES in fact make for a good alternative and perfectly complements the mountain of savoury sambal rice it contains. The phad Thai was nothing special, but satisfactory.
At the very least, if the food fails to impress, youโll get to enjoy a long chit chat session with friends while feeling the sea spray on your face!
This place ainโt just a nameless bakery franchise unworthy of a second glance - my two hearty favorites are both savoury AND sweet, serving as the quick pick-me-up whether itโs post-breakup or post-flight (as was today)! Huge array of bread, croissants, pastries, & cakes, all of which -or at least those Iโve tried- definitely worth the price youโre paying.
The lunch buffet offered here is undeniably a cut above the rest; just the sight of the highlights - comprising seafood on ice, a giant cheese wheel, lamb carving station and an array of desserts - is sufficient to make one drool! Furthermore, in addition to the famed durian pengat and in line with the Christmas festivities, the dessert table included a moist chocolate log cake and gingerbread men on skewers. If craving a lunch buffet, nowโs a good time to pop by! :)
