Cooking Inspirations
When the guilt of over-indulgence comes crashing down on me, I look for simpler, meat-free dishes to alleviate it.
Which is why I gravitated towards the "Vegetable Rice Bowl" when I was last at Wheeler's Yard.
On top of the Japanese rice was a neat arrangement of braised daikon, fine French beans, bok choy, corn, silken tofu and braised mushrooms. These were finished with a splash of a light, savoury and sweet sauce for a little flavour boost. Yums!
I had food cubes the other day. At Tanjong Pagar MRT station there's a store called Food Anatomy that also serves up Illy coffee, and this was all on display! Pretty cubes of favourite dishes. I jumped to get the (clockwise from bottom left) Thai basil pork rice, teriyaki rice cube, bacon and sweet potato cube and seafood pasta bake. Of the four, I think the teriyaki done and the sweet potato bacon were perfect. Honestly, one is enough for an entire meal, about the width of my palm and the height of a muffin. I microwaved them when I got home and had them - still good! The teriyaki one in particular was great, it tasted like the gravy-soaked rice from tori-Q with a layer of shredded seaweed and topped with juicy morsels of chicken
Passed by their new outlet and got these interesting (or gimmicky?) modular food at only 3 for $5! Rather fuss-free option for the working crowd, brought it back for my aldesko meal which still tasted fine; and gave me the illusion that I was satiated for less. Perfect for people like me who love variety and are often indecisive on what to get. Picked the bacon creamy mashed potato that was pretty hearty and tasty, nothing much to fault but falls a little flat texture wise. My solution was to alternate between the other two flavours - Nasi Lemak (Otah, Egg, pandan coconut rice that was subtly fragrant, complete with your typical anchovies and sambal chili that I personally thought was too sweet) and yuzu salmon rice (citrus salmon, beetroot/spinach rice). Will be back to try the other flavours while the 3 for $5 promotion is still on!😛

My favourite out of the three toasts we tried here.
Just the right amount of goat's cheese (and herb oil) smeared on toasted sourdough topped with roasted portobello chunks, sprouts and herbs. The mushrooms could have been juicier, but other than that, I really enjoyed this.
Basically my three fav ingredients combined — eggs, potato and ham.
Once done with photos, mix everything together before serving. I love the texture of small potato cubes slicked in egg, blanketed in thinly sliced iberico ham.
Typing about this makes me wanna go back to have this again 👅💦 #Burpproved
This dish takes about 15-20 mins to prepare, and its worth the wait! The pancake is so fluffy and the crunch of the cereal bits along with the butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream is just a perfect match! Highly recommended!
2.5 munchies: Thick cuts of portobello sandwiched in layers of soft and tender baby spinach, topped with buttery pine nuts and crispy shallot. Unfortunately, there was barely any sweet-tart flavour in the greasy sun-dried tomatoes. The raspberry vinaigrette was also bland and lacked tanginess. Go straight to the live carving station for the BBQ Louisiana Ribs with melted raclette cheese for a jazzy weekend brunch!
An off-the-menu item that's only available by advance order, this is a game changer which impresses with a most unlikely combination that prompts one to question, “why didn’t anyone think of this sooner?”
The buah keluak nut is hollowed out, its flesh mixed with foie gras and a touch of armagnac to create an intoxicatingly rich, earthy cream that’s then piped back into the empty shells.
Spread liberally onto the provided brioche toast or if you, like me, can’t contain yourself, eat spoonfuls of it on its own.
Taste: 5/5
This is different from the usual as they add in seaweed and more tasty! Another favourite added to my list!
Got their "grain" bowl, generous portion of smoked salmon, perfectly poached egg and quinoa. Quality of food was there, but my friends & I felt some items were a little on the pricier end. For eg, while their cakes were good, but for $9 a slice, we were expecting a bigger piece.
Nonetheless, will be back for their truffle fries which smelt absolutely heavenly!

Note to self: We should always add nori to aglio olio in future 👌 #umamibomb #pastalavistababy
