Not to be confused with “Ben Kee Popiah”, this popiah is from another stall that sells its rojak at $3, along with other breakfast delicacies like traditional kueh and curry puffs. It is located a mere stone’s throw away from the stall that I wrote about in my previous review. Despite being sold in just the next coffeeshop and carrying the same price tag, the difference between this popiah and the one from Ben Kee Popiah is pretty significant imo.

👍🏼 PROS:
- affordably priced at $1.50 per roll

👎🏼 CONS:
- stingy with the amount of ingredients, especially the crushed peanuts! I could barely taste them in every bite I took :(
- the ingredients were way too bland 😔
- popiah skin was dry and hard to chew
- definitely pales in comparison as compared to BEN KEE POPIAH, which is located just a few stalls away

overall rating: 1/10
my advice: just get the one from Ben Kee 🤭 hahahaha

Ben Kee Popiah from Teck Whye Lane Blk 143

👍🏼 PROS:
- affordably priced at $1.50 per roll
- each roll was brimming with ingredients, and they were really flavourful too! 😍
- the popiah skin was chewy, and was of the right thickness
- adequate amount of sweet sauce and chilli

👎🏼 CONS:
- the turnip came in exceptionally huge chunks as they were not properly/consistently sliced
- the popiah skin failed to keep the ingredients in place as they started falling out the moment i tried to pick each piece up with my chopsticks. but then again, because of how fresh the ingredients tasted, I gladly scooped all of them up with a spoon and polished the plate clean anyway 😛

overall rating: 9.5/10!!!!
yay i’m so glad to have found yet another good popiah place in the west 🎉😄💕

This is hands down my FAVOURITE popiah ever. Everytime I'm craving for popiah, I know I can always settle for the one from Pontian because it never disappoints! 💕👼🏻

PROS:
- THE ABUNDANCE OF FILLINGS! 💯🤤
- the quality of popiah is consistent across all their outlets - the turnips are always incredibly juicy and the peanuts are distinctly fragrant 😛
- a tiny shrimp is added into each roll of popiah as well 🍤
- the popiah skin is chewy and it might be a tad too thick, but it always does an amazing job of holding the fillings together to prevent them from falling out easily 😉
- the size of this popiah is A LOT larger compared to your regular popiah, which explains its higher price tag

CONS:
- might be a little pricey at $2.80 per roll (but then again, it's the quality AND quantity you're paying for!)
- sadly, not every Pontian cafe sells popiah 😧 also, the price of each roll of popiah varies across different outlets (it ranges between $2.60-$2.80 per roll); really hope that they could make popiah a permanent item on their menu that is available at all their outlets!

overall rating: 10/10 🤗

Fortune Food has many outlets island-wide, but most of them are situated in the east. This is the one from the stall located at Albert Centre Market & Food Centre (just next to Bugis Street).

PROS
- copious amount of fillings 🤗
- turnips were nice and juicy
- it's halal certified! 🙌🏼

CONS
- no beansprouts (might be ideal for some)
- the fritters were extremely soggy
- the entire roll lacked the crunchy essence

although overall, the popiah was pretty tasty, it definitely felt like something was lacking. personally, I prefer having beansprouts in my popiah, and I am not a fan of the soggy fritters either.

Auntie Kim's Popiah at Bishan ($1.50 per roll) 🌯

I ordered two rolls of popiah, one with and one without chilli. The one with chilli was tastier and much more flavourful! 👌🏼 Garlic was added into each roll of popiah as well, which resulted in a strong garlic taste that I find rather peculiar, but I still enjoyed the two rolls anyway 😋

PROS 😺
- generous amount of fillings, especially the peanuts and turnips
- the popiah skin was not too thick, yet it could hold the fillings together to prevent them from falling out easily
- the texture was amazingly on point - both the crunchy fritters and beansprouts contributed to the crunchiness of the popiah, which comeplenented really well with its chewy skin
- affordably priced at $1.50 per roll
- the stall owner was pretty friendly

CONS 😾
- the size of this popiah was smaller/shorter compared to other popiah(s) out there

overall rating: 8.5/10 🤗

(+):
- thin and chewy skin
- v generous amount of fillings!!!!
- popiah skin does not turn soggy even after it has been left aside for a few hours
- consistent quality
- Qiji is a halal-certified eatery! which means I can dine here with my Muslim friends hehe
- there are quite a number of Qiji outlets across the island

(-):
- the sweet sauce in the popiah is a little too sweet for my liking; I need to remember to ask for less sweet sauce the next time I get their popiah
- popiah is slightly pricy at $2.30 per roll

rating: 9/10

I have heard how good this popiah is, hence I was v excited to try it out for myself!

(+):
- turnips were extremely juicy and tasty
- just the right amount of sweet sauce, not stingy yet not overly generous to the point where the skin would turn soggy
- generous amount of crunchy bits
- value for money

(-):
- the skin was pretty dry and not as soft/chewy
- ordered one of my popiah with chilli but I only tasted chilli in 2 out of 5 parts of the popiah roll, which meant that the chilli was not evenly spread out

rating: 8/10
