Chinatown pt outlet: When you are craving Jap but want a quick fuss-free bite, @genkisushisg is alright i guess 😃 Will only go for the aburi sushi's though.

Pros: Yummy sauce that goes with the aburi sushi's. Very fun as it's pretty high-tech with the ordering & clearing of plates. Cheap thrills 😂 Fast and efficient.
🐙
Cons: Very long q during peak hr. Super inconsistent. Low quality, low grade. Chawanmushi & tsubugai 😝👎
🐙
Price: S$36.02 - 2pax light meal

Wisma: One of my fav maki sushi's around! Everything i love in a roll 😍 My afternoon snack & always 1 plate for me! It's super jelat though, so if you wanna order other stuff, recommend to share instead. Have eaten this for years & for the 1st time today, it was "off" 😔 Something was amiss with the sauce, no smokiness. Unagi was fridge-cold & with bones. These were new for me, hopefully just one-off issues.

Pros: It's really shiok when done right! Love the pitan tofu too! Aburi & foie gras sushi's quite good.
🍣
Cons: Long q during peak hrs. Oily, cramped, squeezy place. Most food 👎 especially cooked dishes like fried rice/udon etc... Foie gras maki roll is a joke. Mediocre sashimi. Won't patronize here for Jap food - only the shiok maki.
🍣
Price: S$18 - shiok maki gen.1

Many laud this as the best Jap restaurant in SG. Yes def in it's own league. Having a constant thriving customer stream over the years is a testament in itself. But if you are looking for full blown fine-dining kaiseiki/sushi-ya experience, offering kappou-styles etc... for that "intimate" experience, do not come here. This is a Jap restaurant in a casual setting where u get to enjoy fine dining quality foods. Think: Sushi Tei but super premium version.

🌹
Pros: Good attentive & efficient service. Only place i know that does aburi like this, using high quality seafood (but i have my usual cheaper & good enough place for aburi😂) Salt grilled chicken is SO GOOD. Have yet to come across a bad dish here (maybe tempura). Counter/private room or al fresco seats.
🌹
Cons: Expensive. Maguro sashimi was hard! Will not recommend the dinner omakase for $280++, go elsewhere. Dishes quite decadent but no creative/innovative flair, basically the same throughout the years. On another note, why fix if it aint broken?😁
🌹
Price: S$303.65 - 2pax, just nice with enough space for desserts elsewhere (do note this is considered low spending for dinner already 😅)

This @fukusenrestaurant was really quite a "saga" 😂 Made reservation last week & went down only to realise they were out of uni. So we left, asking to make another reservation for today - they were so nice abt it, guaranteeing to reserve uni for us. Lo & behold, when we went, they did not bother to put our reservations down 😒 Won't u at least pretend u did??

Pros: Cosy interior. Polite staffs. Hotate, foie gras don was yummy! Rice was delicious. Fresh tasting sashimi. Creamy uni.
🐳
Cons: Long wait. Sooooo thinly sliced & low grade quality. Uni & ikura was bitter. Uni don very bland when paired with rice. Each bowl supposedly enough for 1, but it's too little. Not value-for-money, left feeling half-full & unsatisfied.

Suntec Pasarbella branch: @rollieoliesg is a poke bowl shop that also serves salads and sushi rolls. Have been frequenting them quite often! I wouldn't say it's flawless as they do have their issues but food is generally good so... something has to give i guess 😃

Rating: 7.6/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: I like their food as it’s very light & refreshing yet filling as well 👍My fav dishes are: Wasabi brown rice bowl, Dos Amigos roll.

Cons: Tried the salmon roll; priciest on the menu yet was below expectations. There is too much going on in a single roll and seared salmon was meh. As previously reviewed, their quantity of ingredients used in bowls are very inconsistent, hopefully they have improved by now.

Price: S$19.95 - Sunkissed Salmon Roll, @ubereats_sg delivery

New users, use my Ubereats code to get $10 off & i'll get $5 too 😃 eats-0cj7b

From the same coffeeshop as the fried porridge (previous post), is this Japanese rice bowl stall @fusion.don. Rice bowl is pretty well executed 😊

🎈
Pros: Polite young fellows. Rice bowl is yummy 👍 hard to go wrong with sous-vide ingredients. Chicken wing dipping sauce was good.
🎈
Cons: Long waiting time. A bit pricey for coffeeshop. Too little mentaiyaki sauce. Chicken wings were so bad. Like really, really bad. Dry, tough, chewy, reheated in microwave texture, tasteless. If not for the sauce...would not have eaten it.
🎈
Price: S$15.90 - salmon mentai don ($9.90), buttermilk chicken ($6)

Ardent long-time fan of Kazu Sumiyaki! I don't know what i would do if they close this place down😂 Def my fav restaurant in SG for top notch yakitori that isn't insanely overpriced. It's been quite sometime since i've felt so satisfied with my meal 😍😍 Do make your reservations before going.

Pros: Everything i tried was so delicious! There is this awesome smoked and charred taste that yet isn't burnt. Place is vibrant & cosy with the dark lighting. Food served at just the perfect temperatures, i believe they let it "rest" prior to serving. Fav dishes: Foie gras, okonomiyaki, chicken wings, buta ringo, yaki awayuki (a dessert that deserves a post of it's own)

Cons: May come off salty to some, but it was perfect for me. Chicken fillet w mentaiko was a bit wonky today, bitter and dry - usually it's really good and i can eat 2-3 pcs. I find their beef & cooked dishes like soup, fried rice etc... not very well done, can do without ordering. Will not order their sashimi's as well, unless it's a seasonal catch.

Price: S$123.60 for everything pictured +2 hot green teas

Back to one of my fav places again @kohakutempura for cheap tempura rice bowls! There's only tempura and carbs here so nothing new. Please see earlier posting (7Jan) for in-depth review and prices.

Have been here about 5 times and today, the batter was soggy in some parts of the tempura. Still crisp and fluffy with good taste but soggy. Since this is the first time it happened i guess it's a one-off.

a happy customer nonetheless 😊😊😊

Update: went back one week after this posting, this time i'm so annoyed at their inflexibility making customers feel so stupid standing outside. I was waiting for a friend to arrive and they will not seat me because of policy which i understand if they were crowded. I asked if i could order first since they are very slow to serve, excuse given was they are afraid food will turn cold. There were empty seats, yet i could not enter to order a drink. It really wasn't crowded at all as i was the last few customers to arrive at 9+pm. They just made me awkwardly stand in front of the shop while the bunch of them paced up/down/left/right casually. Then came 920pm, they suddenly came to take my order while i'm still standing outside and said that there is only 20mins left to eat, do i still want to order? I didn't request/challenge/complain or anything but what kind of rude people are these? Zero initiative.

Having returned numerous times to @sushirosingapore , i can say this place is truly a gem. Well known for their Bara Chirashi dons & at S$12.80, it's priced really well for a donburi. I cannot say the same for their other rice bowls in terms of value (Eg. slab of unagi on rice is $15.80, not ex but would rather go for bara chirashi)

Rating: 8.9/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: Efficient staffs. Simple, fuss-free dining without all the frills. Reasonably priced. Every dish i had was definitely tasty and beats most large sushi chains hands-down in both taste and value. Fav dishes: bara chirashi, ikura chawanmushi, sake aburi, hotate cheese mentai yaki.

Cons: Long queues. Arrived at 7:20pm & seated at 7:45pm on a Sunday. Saw many ppl complaining about the service online & even though it may not be the best, but i think it's good enough; at least staffs are not rude & they work hard. Understandable if they have to be firm due to non-stop customer flow. Aburi is hit & miss, guess it depends on who's scorching it.

Price: S$56 for everything pictured

Orchid hotel branch: @Ramen_Keisuke . Rich broths, comforting slurppy noodles. Nothing more to say! One of the nicer ramen stalls in SG. For the price you pay, definitely worth a visit!

Rating: 8.3/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: Efficient staffs. The soup is the star! Thick and rich tonkotsu broth. Noodles were springy as well 👍 Free eggs and beansprouts available. Prices are totally reasonable compared to other ramen places.

Cons: Very cramped. Didn't like the char siew meat, it was dry and chewy. Broth may be too salty for some (i chose normal flavour), but it's alright for me. Check your receipt as they mistakenly billed us the wrong items.

Price: S$29.20 for 2 tonkotsu ramens, +1 hanjuku egg, 1 green tea cola

Izakaya's are gastro pubs, popular for after-work drinks and small bites/meals. Had lunch @izakaya95 and was really surprised at their high ratings online. Suspicions aside, food was just alright, nothing impressive.

Rating: 6.4/10

Will i return/recommend: No/No

Pros: Gorgeous sea view (mostly blocked by trees), breezy and relaxing. Wide variety of menu items for an izakaya. Their alcohol menu seemed impressive. Fav dish: yakitori eel

Cons: Either it's too salty or MSG-laden. I was so thirsty during & after the meal. Food is not terrible, just mediocre. Totally not worth it for the price paid as ingredients seemed low quality. I doubt hot tea is refillable as nobody came around to offer.

Price: S$83.57 for items pictured + tea

Vivo branch: 2nd review, different outlet. Quite a disappointment this time round. Even though sushi is cheap, but a let down compared to previous experiences.

Rating: 4/10

Will i return/recommend: No/No (Vivo)

Pros: Cheap sushi. Green tea was nice, they use powder. Try Suntec's outlet instead for their aburi sushi's!

Cons: The aburi was not melt-in-the-mouth this time round. Sashimi was inferior quality, not fresh, and texture was mushy. Totally not worth dining here.

Price: S$52.97 for items pictured
