I'm the sort of person who wants to slurp everything up... That wouldn't have been possible with the Onsen Tamago with Monkfish Liver ($15). The yuzu ponzo sauce was too salty π
The onsen egg & monkfish liver were super, though, absolutely melting in your mouth.
Not sure I'd order this again - would probably try something else on the menu.

Let's talk food at Shin Gi Tai. Their Tako Wasabi ($10) is a super refreshing nibble, especially when the wasabi sauce punches your senses awake. The octopus bits have great texture - bouncy & snappy when you bite into them.
I loved this, although it's a bit too much for 1 person to finish. Totally would get this again - it'd be great as a sharing dish.

As we wanted some finger food/small nibbles, in this appetizer platter, we selected the Food Set Deal ($23+) for the 1x Bao, 2x Veggie Skewers, 3x Meat Skewers. We got an assortment of skewers (can mix & match skewers; variety is the spice of life) - from left to right: Taiwanese cocktail sausage, chicken, lamb, cauliflower, beancurd; & a Beef Rendang Bao in the background.
My photos really don't do these justice.. I expected basic bar food - these exceeded expectations, being big on flavour. I especially liked the baos & would be keen to try the other baos on the menu (available as a la carte).

The Ma La Mushrooms ($10+) had me freaking salivating & wanting more. It was just the right balance of spicy & numb, not overpoweringly so of either. The king oyster mushrooms were cooked perfectly juicy... I was addicted. & I'm not even someone who eats MLXG regularly. 100% recommend if you can take the heat π₯

Paired my sake with a plethora of skewers. Carb options available eg sakura capellini & crab meat fried rice (preferred the latter). Was satisfying!
There was a v young waiter that was super friendly, didn't get his name but thank you for your good service.. It uplifted our moods despite the impending doom of CB2.
Overall a pleasant experience, shall seek to return after we can dine in again.

& the food at Chug Chug? Not half bad.
While not photogenic, I find the batter-fried oyster mushrooms with curry cream ($13++) fairly unique, though I'm not quite sure if we enjoyed it so much only because we were starving.

Beurre's Oyster Happy Hour: Mon - Sat, 5-7PM. With a minimum order of 2 drinks, you can get these babies at $2++ a pop. Do read the fine print, though - with a minimum purchase of 6 oysters & maximum of 12 per bill, there isn't much wiggle room IMHO. I reckon a table of 2 diners would optimize this perfectly.... Or a single solo yolo diner like myself π
So these oysters... They are the bomb, man. While not the plumpest, they are juicy enough for my liking. Slightly creamy & with a tinge of brineyness - which is the flavour profile I enjoy. I ordered 6 oysters for myself & tbh as I sit here typing this, I'm tempted to order 6 more to finish on my own...
I enjoy my oysters best with a squeeze of lemon & a nice glass of wine. Pleased to find that Beurre's drinks menu has some pretty affordable options. I chose the Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio. A light & fruity one, it has hints of pears & apples, which sounds easy to drink - & that it was. It also complemented the oysters nicely, warranting a double thumbs up from me ππ»ππ»

The complimentary focassia bread served before our mains was a great start to the meal. Served warm & with 3 varieties of butter to keep it interesting. I like how there's enough of each one to stick to 1 butter should you find your favourite.

I rarely order soups because they disappoint easily. However, this being listed as a "Homemade Mushroom Soup" ($4.50 nett) piqued my curiosity.
Even though it isn't the chunky variant, I was pleasantly surprised by it's earthy flavours (which I tend to look for in mushroom soups), & a slight cheesiness that gave this soup an added dimension without any MSG-laden saltiness.
The only other soup on the menu, the French Onion Soup ($4.50++), will be the next one I try when I return. I kind of have my hopes up π

Disappointed with the Old Bay Onion Rings ($12++). Too greasy, & too large that it's difficult to eat. Not much reason for me to order this again.
Service was also pretty poor. Each time I spoke to the waitress, e.g. "Can I have a glass of white wine?", she wouldn't respond verbally or even nod her head in acknowledgement. She would just purse her lips, then walk away. π

The Vieires en Salsa de Cava ($22++) is a dish from their hot tapas menu; the moment I saw SEA SCALLOPS with sparkling white wine sauce, I was sold.
It wasn't too bad, but I felt it could be executed better. Not sure why, but the sea scallops weren't as hot as I'd like them to be when I tucked into them. Texture-wise, they were slightly too rubbery compared to what I'm used to.
However, the sauce was simply divine. I actually found myself repeatedly dipping my octopus leg into this sauce towards the end of my meal!
