If you choose your Saturday brunch destination based on ambience and Insta-potential as much as its food, you will love Botanist. The sister cafe to the ever-crowded Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters at Upper Thomson, this cosy 40-odd seater is a hit amongst the younger crowd. Dress cool to sit outdoors where draping plants line the wall, and order a five-ounce Flat White ($5) while you deliberate your main. Portions run big, so it's best to share. The lusciously rich Slow Cooked Beef Cheek ($24) is the most expensive item on the menu and with good reason — set on a bed of truffle mash, the chunky slab of beef cheek is so tender it falls right off the bone. For flowy eggporn, opt for the tasty Corn Fritters ($18) served with tomato salsa, guacamole and hummus. The hearty Breakfast Platter ($23) has hash, streaky bacon and bratswurst sausage to name a few — a fail-proof option the guys will enjoy. Prices are nett and there is no service charge. Pro-tip: Head down early to avoid disappointment.

This new spot in Esplanade Mall serves both healthy eats and sinful bar bites all day — two extremes we certainly welcome. Sister concept to A Poke Theory on Boon Tat St, expect four types of Hawaiian poké (pronounced ‘poh-kay’, marinated sashimi cubes served on grains or greens) bowls. This makes it a healthy and convenient option for office workers nearby. Alternatively, if you're feeling indulgent, swing by for their delicious bar bites like tater tots and grilled cheese sandwiches. After work, relax with a few bottles of craft beers and ciders while sharing the lusciously rich Pizza Fries ($14). It is blanketed generously with three types of cheese — gruyere, mozzarella and Parmesan, topped with smokey pepperoni and is Burpple Tastemaker Zhihui Lim’s “idea of the ultimate comfort food”!

After a lot of hype, Central Perk SG has finally opened its doors — hurray for diehard fans of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.! Designed to look like the set of the hit American sitcom, the themed cafe has various iconic corners set up, including Monica's kitchen, Chandler and Joey's foosball table and, of course, the orange sofa. In a space modelled after the main characters' favourite cafe hangout, it's de rigueur to have a coffee. Choose from six different blends (from $4), each named after one of the main characters. The illustrated coffee menu should help you make your choice, but it may be more fun to pick based on your favourite character. Rachel Green, anyone? The food selection stays in line with the theme, with dishes like Janice's Oh My God Baby Back Ribs ($39), You're My Lobster Salad ($32), Monica's Lasagne ($26) and Mrs Braverman's Cheesecake ($16). Prices are definitely on the high side but hey, nobody said a F.R.I.E.N.D.S.-themed nostalgia would be cheap. Pro-tip: It gets really packed on the weekends, so come by on a weekday instead.

Old Hen Coffee Bar has expanded, with a new concept just down the street called Old Hen Kitchen that focuses more on brunch options. The new space is significantly larger, and you have the option of pulling up a seat at the counter to watch them work their magic. We're so glad they've brought over their popular cold brews and espresso-based coffees, with the addition of Japanese tea from Ippudo Tea Co, all great to sip on as you catch up with your friends. Share a side of Chili Crab Fries ($12) while you do so — it's saucy with pronounced bits of crab meat, and has a spicy kick! For mains, try the Salmon Soba ($19) — buckwheat noodles tossed in a citrus teriyaki sauce, topped with sous vide salmon, carrots, edamame and a sprinkle of ikura. Pro tip: Watch out for their newly launched cold brews like the Cold Matcha Milk and seasonal offerings like the Cold Peppermint Chocolate!

This. $7 for three and nope, that's before the GST so I paid a little more than that. The sugar coating is so so generous that my fingers are all dusted with the crystal of sweet after devoring just one of these delish treat. Remember to clean the floor just in case you attract the ants... and not to forget, the salted egg yolk indeed flowed and even spill over in the box. Do handle with extra caution!!! Pretty good for sharing or you can chomp down all of it!!!

Featuring Cerealsly Crunchy Cookie Crisps Shake ($16), one of the six flavours. Good for sharing with a friend or two. Try Captain Nutty CCS if you are a fan of peanut butter! I like the peanut butter crunch cereal puffs. Very addictive.

Deboned winglets deep fried and tossed with a generous amount of spicy doritos chips. This surely does look very appetizing with the golden brown exterior. However, the taste seemed to be a little lacking here — short of that satisfaction you get from fried chicken, perhaps due to the usage of winglets with lesser meat. Chicken thigh might be a better option!

Inside a Chinese temple lies a little Peranakan cafe that has the prettiest tiles and kuehs. A Nonya Set of 2 drinks & 5 kuehs comes at an affordable price of $10. The kuehs are good and I believe no preservatives were used cause.... The coconut shreds turned sour one day later.

The pork carnitas was tasty, spicy and refreshingly not diced pork cubes-esque as similar pork products can be, while the chipotle hollandaise was manageably light. The poached eggs, however, had yolks that can charitably be compared to ginko nuts in texture. 3.7/5

Located at the corner of Bugis Junction, this non-air conditioned shop is a great alternative to Toast Box for a light bite. The brainchild of Chef Benny and sister outlet to Eighteen Chefs, Seng Kee The Black Seed serves local breakfast fare all day. Swing by in the morning or after lunch to grab a Kopi (from $2.60) or for an extra boost, try the Kopi Guyu (from $3) — black coffee with a shot of butter. Feeling hungry? Wolf down a plate of Chee Cheong Fun with Sambal Belacan ($3.20) or have a Kaya Butter Set ($6) — expect generously slathered, velvety smooth kaya and a slice of butter between two lightly toasted pieces of crusty Ciabatta or Focaccia bread. It is served with two perfectly wobbly 63°C sous vide eggs.
