Gorgeous Greece
So fresh and yummy! The ouzo actually lends a pretty unique and fab flavour to this (6 Euros)
Here's another must try. The calamari is fresh and oh-so-fragrant. Not oily too! Major ❤️ for this one. (6.50 Euros)
A fascinating famous spice shop in Piraeus. Super nice & friendly sales staff who took time to explain the different spices to us and so many awesome fragrant spices. We bought 20+ Euros worth, enough to last us 2-3 years probably. 😛
Here we go again! This time at the famous Thanasis (2.10 Euros for takeaway, 2.50 Euros to dine in). The gyros here is really well done, no wonder their reputation with locals and tourists alike. More flavourful than the other gyros we've tried and really fluffy pita too.
This was half a portion for only 7 Euros 😱😱😱. Crabs were nicely done and naturally really sweet. Even sweeter than crabs we get in SG. A fave of the night for sure.
Interesting and tasted like minty mouth wash
Now this was pretty good! Fresh grilled octopus with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
Much too dry...they don't seem to do meats all that well
Worth a try but an acquired taste for sure. A tad too much spices.
This one's near the museum. 2.50 Euros and not that great, but gyros are a local fave for their Low cost and portability. In fact, sitting down for a meal of the same ingredients with perhaps slightly more meat & presented individually on a platter, will cost 3-5 times more.
The Greek liquor. Very similar to the Turkish raki, but spicer. Consumed in a similar manner too - in shots or mixed with water as it typically has a very high alcohol content.
The BEST gyros I've had so far and for only 2 Euros. Tender, juicy, & generous portion of chicken, fresh veggies and a flavoured mayo or tatziki sauce. So good we had it both for breakfast and dinner. Can't remember the name of the stall, but it's the first gyros shop you see when you exit Piraeus metro and turn left.
