Just a simple breakfast with a cold bean curd to beat the scorching weather.

Thank you @mrjoelchia @deniecet_ for the invitation once again!

The rice noodles are given a quick fry with dark soy sauce to "dye" it and give a smoky flavor too. Lastly the smooth and slippery texture of the rice noodles are topped with an incredible flavourful gravy packed with all kind of ingredients that I have at home. Best served together with my favorite green pickled chilli!

Me think it's the truly test kitchen's pasta in chicken curry cream sauce. It's spicy, it's aromatic, it's affordable at SGD 3.50 and best of all, it's great tasting! It's good deal, it's good value, it's appetizing and it's pleasing to my palate and wallet too :)

I recalled my first visit to the Penang buffet at York Hotel in the late 80s as a child. Then, it was a big big world when the buffet line seemed to stretch on endlessly. Needless to say, I remembered very vividly on the laksa and the unlimited serving of char kuey teow. Of course, as a kid, we made the beeline for the ice lax hang station. It was one of the most treasured memories of food and family at the buffet event. It was an 'Event' in those day.

Decades forward, it was a quiet sweet nostalgia that this Penang buffet was revisited again. Same old feeling, same excitement, same flavors and same old-skool Penang food.
The buffet line has defiantly got longer (12 traditional hawker stalls) with the usual Penang favorites of Cha Kway Teow, Penang Prawn Mee and tangy Assam Laksa, Nasi Lemak with Nonya Chicken Kapitan, Penang Rojak, Cuttlefish Kang Kong, Kway Teow Soup or Dry, Oyster Omelette, Ban Chang Kueh, Pasembur, Lor Bak.

My new favorite - Ban Chang kuey, crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. This brought me back to school days when we would just make a beeline at the school canteen for the fresh ones produced. This is better as the skin remains crispy even when it cooled down.

Assam Laksa was flavorful and tangy, the prawn paste was fresh and render its distinctive notes to the dish. A great dish but indeed not for the faint hearted.

Looking around the cafe, I am happy to be back.... Old memories preserved, new memories formed, old friends rekindled, new relationships forged. A quiet great evening indeed.

This Penang Hawkers' Fare will be available from til 27th March 2016 for just $29++ on the weekdays and $33 on the weekends. Walk-in only.

Thank you @yorkhotel for having us and @sixthsensepr for the invitation to this great evening.

Not the best lor mee I have tasted but it is the generous portion of their nicely fried fish fillets that enticed me. They are famous for using deep fried fish with a nicely golden brown coating and still remain its crispness even with the gravy over it. It would have been better if the gravy is more stronger in taste.

One of the oldest fish head steamboat that is still using charcoal for their steamboat, which explains their soup is so full-bodied and incredibly sweet!

Do check out their Premium Dragon Grouper Fish Head Steamboat which is just normally served at high class Chinese restaurants and these delicious "zi char" dishes - Shan Lao Hor Fun ($6.80/$28.80), Crisp-fried Prawn in Golden Pumpkin Sauce ($18.80/$28.80), Champagne Pork Ribs ($12.80/$18.80), Stir-fried Sambal Sotong ($11.80/$17.80), Claypot Drunken Rice Wine Clam ($15.80/$20.80) and Four Heavenly Kings ($8.80/$12.80), only available at the new outlet along Owen Road!

Thank you @nanhwafishboat and #brandcellar for having us tonight!

I was asked to try this "not so appealing" chicken chop hor fun but to my surprise, I really love it a lot! Mix it all up first so that every strand of hor fun will be covered with their special dark savoury gravy that comes with a hint of vinegar in it. The chunky chicken chop itself was pretty flavourful and still remains crispy & juicy. The hor fun was so good and smooth down your throat and I love the addition of chilli sauce that gives a light spicy kick to it.

The herb based beef soup here has a sweet and is rich in taste, with 13 ingredients in it. The beef slices are fresh and tender and goes well with their chilli sauce that gives an appetizing taste, not forgetting those tasty chewy beef balls too! Even @issacblade can't wait to dig in! Overall, it is a satisfying bowl of beef noodle!

Yeah I'm not a virgin anymore! 😁😁😁 I love the Dumplings in Chilli & Vinegar, Mee Sua Kueh and Liu Sha Bao that stood out the most among all! All thanks to the awesome company who brought me here for supper after a night of hardcore KTV session. Now I'm officially having sore throat!

Greasy thick KL Hokkien Mee ($8) - check out that glistering shine and littered everywhere with insane amount of pork lard. Just the right amount of wok hei and some fresh seafood - just felt it was slightly overpriced for the quantity (esp. at a coffeeshop zi char place)
