Dear Jon sent this over for my birthday during the circuit breaker. This combines the best of apple crumble (fragrant cooked apples, cinnamon and buttery crumble) and cheesecake (rich and creamy, and silky mouthfeel). I really should check out the other flavours - Milo Dinosaur sounds wonderful!
My lovely friend (affectionately called Moo) sent me this cute “assemble your own brownie” pack from The Dark Gallery last week. It comes with four huge chunks of fudgy brownies, 2 pints of ice-cream, a pack of chocolate soil and a little container of chocolate sauce - everything I needed to put together an indulgent, level-up brownie treat with almost no sweat on my part (“almost” because I took it upon myself to take accountability shots of the results for dear Moo and instagram). This is really good! Warm fudgy brownie aside, the ice-cream is also great. It is thick and creamy (evidenced by super slow melting atop a warm brownie, which allowed me to change 3 locations before getting this photo), and very pleasing to my Asian tastebuds because it is not cloyingly sweet at all. Not sure what else to say about this pack because we all know the joys of great chocolate and ice-cream, and I enjoyed putting together these brownie dessert plates for the fam more than I expected (also finally dusted off my ice-cream scoop). Will definitely recommend sending this to someone you love! 💗
It's a close fight between Matchaya and my longtime fave Tsujiri. The ice-cream had a dense creamy texture and prominent tea flavours. I could even taste the smokiness of houjicha! If you can't decide between matcha and houjicha (I think there's sesame too), you can opt for a mix which was what we did. Service is a little slow though as the shop at Icon Village seems short-handed.
One of the best sticky date puddings I've eaten! The pudding was tender, moist and rich. It was served warm and went superbly with the vanilla bean ice-cream and walnuts. It also sat in a sticky pool of caramel sauce, which added flavour to the pudding and is great for people with a sweet tooth.
Unlike the pancakes we are familiar with, this Dutch pancake is more like a crepe that is thicker and more spongy. The edges are also thin and crispy. It has a pleasant eggy taste that goes well with the caramel, bananas and ice-cream. This treat comes in a generous serving so I would recommend sharing it with a friend!
Besides waffles and ice-cream, Sunday Folks also has some pretty good cakes! We had the weekday cake and tea set, which came up to $10.70 incl of gst. We ordered the recommended matcha chiffon w white choc frosting and osmanthus sencha pairing. Loved the cake!! The chiffon was very soft, light and moist, and even with the decadent white choc frosting, its sweetness was just right.
I think I'm late to the party (again :() but I must say this crepe cake is soooo gud! I love the texture of the crepe layers, and the chocolate cream is really good! None of the watered down nonsense. I would advise skipping the original crepe cake because the vanilla cream just doesn't taste that great. I've also tried the Banana Mille Feuille and Gateau Au Chocolat but I personally feel that they are nothing spectacular. Uh I really can't say that Lady M's cakes are affordably priced ($9 per slice....🤑) but if you wanna treat yourself, go for this! 😋
This was one of the best tiramisu I've had. The mascarpone was velvety smooth, thick (almost like ice-cream) and fragrant, and the sponge layer was dripping with espresso and rum. There was also no scrimping on the rum and this little ramekin packed a good punch. If I had to nitpick, I'd probably like another sponge layer for even more espresso and rum! Hehe. Will go back just for this! $11++
Kki Sweets specializes in mousse cakes, which look really pretty and delicate, so I've been wanting to try them for the longest time. I finally did but I feel that this is rather overrated. First, be warned that each cake costing $8-10 is teeny tiny, which makes it quite an exorbitant treat. While there was nothing horrible about the cakes and I could tell that a lot of effort had gone into molding them into the masterpieces they were aesthetically, there was nothing exceptional about them flavour-wise. My fave of the lot has to be the Domu, which was a rich blend of coffee, chocolate and hazelnut and had the most robust flavours among the 3 cakes I tried. The Antoinette had a fragrant and light vanilla mousse, which I enjoyed, but I couldn't taste any hint of mango in its molten mango center (I believe some juicy tropical tartness would have accentuated the vanilla :/). The Nao, a strawberry and pistachio cake, was also missing the nuttiness of pistachio. I probably won't be back in the near future because these cakes are really pricey yet do not satiate my dessert cravings, but if you have some change to spare, there is no harm in trying them for yourself. Plus you get to while an afternoon away in their beautifully furnished Muji-style cafe :)
Assembly Coffee introduced a couple new waffles to their menu a while back, including one with maple bacon and Chantilly cream. However, I chose a waffle that came with a mixed berries compote, vanilla ice-cream and topped with crumble. It was good - generously topped with tangy compote. Try to eat it as quickly as you can though, cause the waffle does get soggy pretty fast.
This is essentially 2 fluffy pancakes with a super yummy red bean filling. I can see why Doraemon loves this so much! 😋
A nice chocolate cake with soft sponge and creamy mousse layers. As usual, the cream was very fragrant and light, and not cloying. The chocolate nibs hidden within the mousse layers provided texture and crunch, and I liked how the mousse was rich and not overly sweet. I liked it! Though I must point out that Four Leaves Bakery does a pretty legit version of this cake at a lower price as well. 😐
