Best - Fishball Noodles/ Bak Chor Mee
I ate at this uncleās stall probably since 10 years old. Previously uncle was at block 511 in Hougang Avenue 8. Due to the coffee shop renovation he was ejected out of the coffee shop and had to relocate to the industrial estate to let his business survive.
Thankfully the fish ball noodles have found itās own following at the area and business is still decent during weekdays. Unlike the previous place they now only serve laksa on Monday and Thursday, since weekends are not itās peak days anymore.
Always enjoyed a friendly catch-up chat with the uncle while eating his bowl of noodles!
Fresh and handmade!
The bak chor mee hunter in me returned for the weekend. Few years back I have visited this place many times to find it closed. Finally I made it just on time and this became my new favorite bak chor mee place to go. A tad pricey at a base price of $5, it was worth its cost. 3 pieces of shrimps, 3 meatballs, at least 12 slices of mushroom, one chunk of veggie, super tender minced pork with 2 pieces of flatfish. The mee pok was al dente and there is even a small pond of vinegar (for vinegar lovers). The chili was well balanced not lacking of spice and not that oily. Haven't found such a gem in a while, opened daily(closed on mondays) till 2pm. Yumzzzzz
After procrastinating for a semester, I decided at 8am that I will just take a morning run to the Bak chor mee stall at west coast (running with a goal of shiok Bak chor mee in mind is really motivating). I finally found it at BLK 710 at the west coast area. This one opens from 630 onwards and they have a new branch just at BLK 713 at opens at 1130 onwards. I guess the demand was really too high. At 835 in the morning I still had to wait around 8 mins for my turn but the Japanese was already cooking two bowls at one go so it was still pretty fast (at least for me). Now, time for the bcm review. The mee pok was simply, awesome. So thin yet so firm, the noodles will be the main reason I will come back again. When I took a first look at the soup, it seemed pretty bland but it was actually flavorful (maybe still early hence the soup not "old" enough). The meat slices were tender and to my liking, everything felt fresh and tasty (maybe after a run I was too hungry). But surely I will eat this everyday if I live nearby, however it is simply too difficult to get to the place and the total time required to get your hands on this bowl of noodles is just too great for people not living in the west. Still, 9/10 ;)
Being a Bak Chor Mee lover, how could I stand not eating it for 5 days? So before my flight I checked early into terminal 2 to have the legendary Tai Wah version before it closes around 11pm! The noodles were not as well cooked but gosh it's soup was so awesome because it was cooked for an entire day! The rich taste that came with every bite of the flat fish make one feels so orgasmic! Having this at 11pm is just so Shiok and sinful!
A simple bowl of fishball noodles with really uniquely sweet minced pork and fresh fishballs is my way to satisfy myself after a day of studying.
My favorite spot for a Bak chor Mee supper. At $5 it comes with a relatively large portions with 2 meatballs, 2 shrimps, 2 fishballs, 2 dumplings, more than 4 slices of fishcakes and also some minced pork. It's stir fried dried chili is one of the main reasons I frequent this place! It's soup is pretty delicious but I suspect that it is through the use of MSG. Overall, this bowl of noodles made the long walks I always had to take, worth it.
Visited the stall at the coffee shop thrice to find it twice closed. Finally the uncle tell me it closes at 2.30pm. It is very similar to the one at hill street tai hwa! The small bits of fried flatfish are my favorite and at $4.50 after upsizing, are way more worth it than tai hwa! Overall it's pretty delicious!
Those tiny bits of minced pork is something I crave for every time I return to Singapore!
Found in a corner of the food republic in wizma atria, this bowl of noodles has everything you need. From juicy mushrooms to fresh dumplings. It is assured of good quality! Pretty much why I always eat at food republic in town!
After a long day of project meetings in town and practical test in school, I walked past the newly set up food republic in shaw lido, had a sudden craving for a bowl of Bak chor mee and there I saw a middle age Aunty and an uncle running this stall at 9.40pm!! Ordered their last bowl for the day and gosh it was so good. A pity though that I could have asked for more chili as it was really good! The ingredients were fresh and well cooked. At $5, I could say that this price is still pocket friendly for the likes of orchard road! After eating I just had to thank the Aunty for providing me such a great late dinner! The smile she had while cleaning the stall was priceless š
Another bowl of goodness found at marine terrace. At $4, this bowl of noodles had one of the tastiest fishballs I ever ate. Fresh and springy. It's once of those fishballs that my grandpa used to sell as a fishmonger. The meatballs were delicious, their small pork slices were well marinated as their stall also sells porridge! Overall, if not for their remote location, this is one bowl of noodles I don't mind eating everyday.
