Chanced upon this store while I was walking around after stuffing my face at Hong Lim Food Centre. Apparently it has been around since 1905! I’ve only ever eaten BCH and occasionally Kim Peng Hiang, so of cos I needed to try this very ancient brand. I got the bacon and the spicy bbq pork. I liked that they don’t have much fatty parts, unlike BCH. Already so fattening (and guilty) to eat Bak kwa, I don’t need extra fats.
The bacon carried a pepper taste that I didn’t much enjoy. It was also a bit tougher to bite off than the spicy one. Hubby polished it off happily while I attacked the spicy bbq pork. It was really good! A bit sweeter than the bacon, the meat was very very well marinated. The marinate really permeated every bit of the meat. The more I chewed, the more flavorful. Not that I had to chew long, cos it was quite tender. I liked this so much better than BCH! But I’d likely continue to buy BCH, cos it’s more convenient.
They claimed that they won’t increase price for Chinese New Year so I’m definitely buying more!
