Not a big portion, there's a little bit of crisp which disappeared quickly, the meat wasn't the best texture and there's a little bit of funk from sake or sth
Average
Weak miso and didn't amplify umami much, skin was crispy but burnt, literally. Cod could have been more fresh too
Gyu Set (S$42++)
100grams Kagoshima yakiniku beef, onsen egg, japanese rice
Tender meat
Tori Set (S$27++)
Grilled chicken, chicken meatball, onsen egg, Japanese rice
Lovely meatball with crunchy soft bone.
Lunch set is served with salad, pickles and soup

The butabara (pork belly) from @jinjosg was so good! Super tender, with just the right amount of fat that makes it melt in your mouth. Pairs wonderfully well with the miso sauce that it comes with which was super umami.
There's quite some bite and a little bit of chew. Slightly underseasoned too. Nothing special
Bouncy, slighty chewy pieces of fat. The texture is very similar to pork jowl actually. Different places achieve different textures and this one is quite good. Slightly crispy on the exterior too
Also known as sunagimo(the more common name), the gizzard here was well seasoned. The texture was bouncy, quite a lot of bite, but otherwise not v special.
Hate to admit it but a veg dish could truly be one of the best of the night. Tofu itself was impeccable, crisp shards of skin and really wobbly, smooth and almost custard like texture. It has great complexity that's humble and the sesame taste was light.
The duo of miso were delicious too. Way too strong on their own, but perfect w the tofu. Yellow miso was saltier and red miso was sweeter, and if you to follow the staff's advice of mixing both up, the combination is truly something.
Must try!
Bone marrow w beef rice
Recommended by the staff and for good reason. Beef marrow mixed w beef rice is truly something. Oily so this small bowl is enough. The bone marrow melts as u mix it and coats each grain in beef butter. Must try!
It was 20 for 4 quarters last time, so I tot maybed they dropped the price and portion for more people to try. Nope
The quality simply reduced significantly. It's buttery and slightly crispy, only because butter was applied during grilling. Nothing special at all, there's a slight smokiness but severely overpriced and not even that much better than your average sweet potato
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. Especially these rice pots, which go for $35 to $55. It serves two, but both the rice and the eel were very ordinary.
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. This cut is $48 yet not great. It's not beefy and a bit rubbery. But the garnish of kimchi, fried garlic and spring onion was appreciated.
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. This chicken wing costs $10 and arrived dramatically in a box with charcoal and wood haha. It's stuffed with truffle rice. Totally not worth it haha. Neither the chicken nor the truffle was good.
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. I love foie gras and cannot resist. But even though it's never bad, this was not the best. It's oily enough but not gamey enough.
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. This tofu was probably the best item here. Words cannot describe the texture inside the crispy skin. It's so custard you'd accuse them of lying that it's tofu. The Aichi and Kyoto miso provided contrasting personalities to the tofu.
A sumiyaki under Les Amis, which guarantees quality. As a fan of PRC BBQ, this was also overpriced relative to the food. The kawa, aka chicken skin, was crispy and smoky, but I prefer my skin fatty. The bonjiri, aka chicken backside, was the best I've eaten. Although tiny, each piece not only had the attributes of parson's nose, the cartilage was non-existent, raising the experience.
Jinjo is one of my favourite meals of 2020.
Jinjo has been offering pretty value-for-money lunch sets. They have three options for lunch sets: the gyu (beef) at $35++, the tori (poultry) at $25++ and the unagi (eel) at $32++. All sets come with salad, pickles and soup. I opted for the gyu and I was blown away.
The Kagoshima beef was tremendously delicious - it had a good ratio of lean meat to fat, well seasoned and cooked to perfection (medium rare)! However, what really separated Jinjo from other sumiyakis was their care and attention to detail. Most restaurants understandably wouldnβt put too much consideration towards the sides but not at Jinjo. It seemed like every element that was served had a gastronomic purpose. The miso soup was wonderfully rich, the salad was crisp and tasty and even the pickles were beautifully sweet.
I'll be here often, in fact already my second time in a month. It's a causal joint that serves very good yakitori, and prices are good for its quality as well. Excluding drinks, a Friday night dinner here would be around $100 to $150 for two persons.

I wished I discovered this place earlier, and I would have a regular place to go to on Friday nights. That's when I need casual fuss-free food that are also yummy.

Following the closure of Otowa after the previous Japanese owner-chef went back to Japan, it's not easy to name another good yakitori place in Singapore. Jinjo could fill that spot, albeit with much better ventilation that will not leave you smelling like one of the skewers.
