First time trying their Portuguese egg tart and I was totally blown away by that rich custard and super flaky crust.
Come weekend mornings, families in Subang flock to this dim sum institution for a hearty breakfast. Hoong Foong's airy seatings are aplenty, with ample space in between for wheeling around dim sum carts. That's the other thing we love about Hoong Foong: its fresh, made-to-order dim sum that arrive at your table, wafting in steam. The sheer variety here can be overwhelming — we recommend a mix of classics and modern recipes. The traditional Siew Mai (RM4.50) is a trio of meaty bites. Otherwise, jazz things up with the Salted Egg Yolk Mai (RM5) that is largely similar but with a boost of rich salted egg yolk. On fried morsels, be sure to get the Yam Puffs (RM4.50) that frequently sell out early. The puff is crisp and flaky on the outside and you will have to really sink your teeth in to find the layer of creamy yam and luscious meat sauce within. Cap breakfast off with an order of their iced local drinks, be it the Teh Peng (RM2.50), Kopi Peng (RM2.50) or Cham Peng (RM3.00). All three awaken with robust flavours.

Deep-fried flaky pastry encasing prawn paste, salted egg and century egg. What a great concoction!
At an average price of RM6 for a basket, it has amazing variety but at the same time ensures quality. The 流沙包 really impressed in its perfect liquidity and balance between sweet and savoury.
Most sinful dim sum pick of all time: Stir-fried Glutinous Rice (RM5). The lap cheong bits and greasy finish are what make this dish so irresistible so if you're gonna order this goodie, do it for sharing! I'm sure you're capable of finishing it on your own, but for your heart's sake, don't do it. Especially not at the early breakfast hours.
Striking a balance between time-honoured dim sum and newfangled recipes, Hoong Foong in USJ 21 makes the perfect meeting point for families, young and old. Be it the flaky Yam Puffs (RM4.50) with superb yam-to-meat filling ratio or the wok hei-laden Fried Glutinous Rice (RM5), freshness is guaranteed here in these shoplots. On weekends, young men heave vast metal trays brimming with dim sum to your table while on quieter weekdays, steamers are made to order so you'll always get your Salted Egg Mai (RM5) — a version of siew mai filled with crumbly salted egg yolk bits — when it's steaming hot. Amp up your open-air breakfast with a glass of potent Kopi Peng (RM3).
Non-halal.
