Many of you recommended Gold Mine over Four Seasons for London's famous roast duck, and by word of mouth, indeed Gold Mine could be the superior one.
🔸
I've not tried Four Seasons to tell the difference, but Gold Mine's duck was fat and very succulent. Each bite releases lots of the duck's sweet-savoury juices. The roasting technique however was of average Cantonese-standard, which means it was already good, but not out of the norm. There are a few fine Chinese restaurants (like those in good hotels) that has more refined roasting techniques (but they don't use Irish duck as fat as this).
🔸
So this makes for good comfort food, especially in London when it's cold and you're far away from home.

Think I over ordered again!
Dim sum were fab, the old Hong Kong style... service was HK style as well - fast and hurried LOL.
The siew mai were plump and juicy, squid cake fresh (through slightly oily), beef tender with wok hei.
The famed Roast Duck was 14 pounds for the half. At first I ordered quarter.... “waitress said that’s 11”, so I might as well order more. The sauce and the cabbage beneath were the winners. Slightly too fatty for my liking, but still better than many other versions.

went gold mine and oh myyy was it ducking good...
👍🏼 long queue and it's always packed. The hype about london duck.
So they say the roast duck in London was good. I initially didn't believe it but after 6 months of not getting Chinese food I would say I enjoyed this quite a lot. Nice amounts of fat layered the firm and flavourful meat, drenched in their special sauce which added to the flavour. Four Seasons is just a few shops down so head to either of these places for your Chinese food fix in London.
Hearty: 4/5
Tasty: 4/5
Worthy: 4/5
Since my hotel is located very near to this restaurant, we instantly made a reservation the day we reached London. We went the following day, had dinner and left belly-satisfied. This place and especially the highly rated Special Roast Duck Cantonese Style (Half, £15.80) was truly a gold mine. The roasted skin with a bit of fats underneath, the tender duck meat and the natural juices from the duck and marinate was crying out for a bowl of rice to go with it.
