I like their dou sha bing. There are two flavours to choose from, namely salty and sweet.
The one with sasame on the skin is sweet, whereas the one without is salty.
The skin is soft and the filling is generous.
Two sizes: big - $1.20, small - $0.70

This was really decadent. How nice to be able to enjoy this on Mid-Autumn Festival. 🥮🌕
Not cheap at 2 boxes for $128.

Mao Shao Wang White Snow Skin Mooncake

Snowskin Bamboo Charcoal Mao Shao Wang Mooncake

Cant rlly rmb the price, this was very good tho. The sweetness is pronounced yet not overwhelming, considerable crunch, and there's also a complexity to it.

Lovely stuff

Tried the floss bakkwa pastry from Hong Kao Liao Li a while back and it was $1.60 for a tiny layer of floss and cheap bakkwa. Glad to say that this pastry is definitely more worth my money since its filled so much better!

Since the label said that this has chicken in it, I was expecting chicken, but there wasn't any inside hmm. Not complaining though, since the bakkwa and floss are so good. Bakkwa and floss is the BEST combo ok pls this is an A+ pastry and all bakkwa and floss lovers have to try it 🥰 a perfect mix of sweet, savoury and salty!

I'll gladly forgive the non-existent chicken meat because I'd marry this pastry all day every day 😚

Wasn't too sure about trying this pastry cuz usually pastries with 2 fillings kinda just taste like they have 1 filling since the flavours blend together too much to be distinct, but this pastry actually has a distinct difference in taste between the red bean and the yam!

The red bean is sweet and smooth, it tastes like those neighbourhood bakery red bean fillings, the sweet and "unnatural" but super delicious kinds. The yam has a yammy taste and is also pretty sweet. You can definitely taste two different flavour profiles as eating this.

Really nice pastry! Plus its well filled hehe would recommend!

The red bean is those neighbourhood bakery sweet and more "unnatural" kinds I guess? Those really delicious ones that you know they probably added a bunch of sugar in but you don't care anyway. The mochi is sticky and really chewy, and the floss is floss. Because of the way that this pastry is filled, with about half of it being red bean, I found that the red bean taste kinda overpowered the floss and the mochi a bit. I could only really taste the floss and mochi when I ate them separately, so the whole concept of it being a 3Q biscuit is a little lost cuz of the ratios.

However, still really good! Would be better if the floss, mochi and red bean were a bit more 1:1:1 but still worth $1.50!

Ordered through online. Comes with mixed varieties of favour, shapes and colours. Nice, sweet, soft and taste just like the old time bakery cakes.

Eating old school pastries like these always brings about a sense of nostalgia. These tau sar piah are soft and flakey, but somehow manage to maintain firm and in shape to hold the generous fillings within. I always prefer the sweet fillings over the salty ones, how about you?

These traditional cakes got me reminiscing about my childhood, where my mom always buys them for breakfast. All the different colours always attracted me as a kid, wanting to try all the different creams available. They were light and fluffy, and a delight to munch on. While these weren’t as fragrant as the cakes in my memory, they suffice to bring me some joy amidst these pandemic.

Childhood memories were made of these. Guess my love for pastries like such, were largely influenced by my pop. Being the traditional machismo Asian man that he is, he loves tau sar piah, kueh and all things similar and always pairs them with his Kopi-O. As such, I grew up trying all kinds of pastries and listening to his stories on how “they don’t made it the same anymore”, “these are machine made”, “last time the pastries very fragrant one, what’s this nonsense I’m eating now”. Hence, I’m always on the lookout for nice pastries to bring them back and let him relive some childhood memories.⁣

Gin Thye is easily my go to for this, with the pastries soft and flakey, but somehow managing to maintain firm and in shape to hold the generous fillings within. Got it off @shopee_sg @ginthyesg store, with 6 sweet and 6 savoury tau sar piah going at just $10.80. What a steal!⁣

I understand pastry industries like this is a tired trade, slowly losing favours among the younger generation and I can only hope, it won’t die out. Feel free to let me know if you have any good suggestions for tau sar piah! Thank you in advance on behalf of my pop! 🙏🏼

The only kind of cake I could find off the shelf within walking distance for little JJ during CB period.
Anyway he was very happy and finished off the whole roll himself.
