Fails on all 3 levels. Skin cmi, soup not umami enough, worst is there's cubed ginger in the filling. Who wants to chew on ginger?
Come on
The skin is different from the usual. It's abit transculent and the bite is pretty decent, better than your average nonsense
Filling was alright also
Overall it's a passable dumpling and quite above average
This stall attracted me with its rustic and down-to-earth exterior. Think 蒸饺, 锅贴, 小笼包, 拉面, and 葱油饼, this stall is bound to have your Chinese food cravings satisfied at wallet-friendly prices.
小笼包 (6 pcs @ $5.50) - Sadly, the skin was a little undercooked and THERE WAS NO SOUP. I do hope that this is just a one-off case though because this stall seemed to receive pretty good reviews and the stall owner sounded really nice and humble.
After queuing for 45 minutes for the Hill Street Tai Hwa pork noodles, we simply gave up as we were not even halfway.
So ended up having Xiao Long Bao ($4.50) & Pork Ribs La Mian ($4.50).
The pork ribs was quite tender and meaty too.
Although the xiao long bao's skin looked quite thin, it did not break easily.

We ordered a feast of Zha Jiang Mian, Pumpkin Pancake, Red Bean Pancake, Pot Stickers, Steamed Dumplings and Xiao Long Bao (炸酱面,南瓜饼,红豆饼,锅贴,蒸水饺,小笼包) and it only cost us $32 in total!
The dumplings were great - juicy with loads of filling, moist skin that wasn't too thick. The red bean pancake had a good amount of filling and the sesame seeds on it was a great touch. the zha jiang mian noodles had a good texture, and the sauce was balanced and flavourful.
The only disappointing dish was the pumpkin pancake, which was too gelatinous for our liking. Its texture and taste was very similar to nian gao (年糕) and it was unfortunately lacking in pumpkin flavour.
