Yeah they weren't kidding about the chendol being one of the best in Singapore, mainly thanks to the thick gula melaka syrup. I thought there wasn't enough syrup for the ice alone at first, but even after mixing it with the completely unsweetened solid coconut cream layer, the syrup still stood it's ground and shone with brilliance. Delectable
Ikan bilis was average but what's surprising was the amazingly soft otah. I guess if soft otah is your thing this would be perfect
Might actually be useless depending on what you order e.g. the rendang dishes. I tried it with the buah keluak and quite liked the additional dimension it lends the chicken. It seems like just a grounded chili paste but it does increase the depth of the flavour. It's a bitter kind of spicy if that makes sense >
This was without a doubt the bomb. Beef was so tender it almost melts into the gravy, and that sweet, savoury slightly spicy gravy was so thick and had a great texture. I used to think rendang was essentially cooked down curry but how wrong I turned out to be. Now I'm convinced that this is it's true form and it was so addictive we cleaned the bowl by eating the gravy on its own after we finished the meat
Got it for 9.9 per set on fave
This took my ayam buah keluak virginity as I heard this was less strong and more suitable for those who have never tried it before. Nevertheless I was still slightly taken aback by the taste. There's an aroma characteristic of fermented food and it imparts a strong umami to the tender chicken. While I found it tasty, I might be hesitant to try anything stronger than this. Still for a first timer this was a pretty nice dish that was easy enough to accept yet feels authentic
The nice thing about drinks here is that they will ask you for the desired sweetness
Slightly bitter but very refreshing and works well to counteract the strong satisfying peranakan mains
Dulu Kala is a Peranakan restaurant hidden in Beauty World Centre, serving Peranakan dishes that has been passing down through generations. Please read my review at www.hungryghost.sg
Ordered the Nyonya Fried Rice and Ayam Buah Keluak. While acceptable, I find Nyonya food in Singapore somewhat lacking the 'kick' or 'oomph' that you get from the ones in Malacca or even KL #foodporn #foodgasm #burpple #foodstagram #foodie
Chendol - with delectable green pandan jelly strips and rich gula melaka drizzled into the bowl of ice. This thick and rich syrup is sweet and savoury, which elevated this chendol above others. It is no wonder they are voted as one of the best chendol in Singapore.

Very reasonably priced and tasty nyonya food! Recommend the babi pongteh and meatball soup. Ayam buah keluak was not bad, but felt that it could have been more fragrant | β β β β β
Pleasantly surprised by this place. Best dishes we had were the Beef Rendang and Otah.. Nice!
This bowl had a nice coconut milk to gula melaka ratio. Unfortunately, it did not have sufficient red beans in the mix to make it thoroughly indulgent, as any good bowl of chendol should be. $3.8 after service charge. Worth a shot if you're in the area; otherwise, I suggest going for the chendol at Malaysia Boleh in Jurong Point.
This was SGD 280 for 14? pax, so quite a #worthwhile 8 person #set that had a #wide #spread of #dishes. The #chendol was #good too! #dinner #Burpple #reubeats
A Beauty World icon, its comforting Peranakan food has been feeding me since as long as my Grandmother was alive; and if she loved it, you know it's good π. This Babi Pongteh is a tad less savoury than what I am used to but I reckon it's more balanced than my mother's touch which can be a tad heavy. Not for the health conscious, the fats actually contributes to the aroma and taste of the dish. βΊ It's also one of the cheapest Peranakan joints in town; some more expensive places are absolutely overrated and not authentic. Oh, come and whack the Buah Keluak as well (sorry no pics, in my stomach by the time the picture was taken). ππ #burpplesg #burpple #peranakan #peranakanfood #babipongteh #noodleeats #jiaklocal #thegrowingbelly #singapore #pork
Slightly on the sweet side but it goes well with the plate of rice. The other worthy note is the portion is quite big compared to other Perankan restaurants I have visited.

The beef cooked in mix of spices and coconut milk is tender and robust in flavours. If not that the kitchen was a bit heavy on the salt, I would have rate this highly.
